This historical building is free to visit and you can have a coffee or a meal at the restaurant inside. You can also find all kind of local products there in the shop, typical products for the East of Flanders

This is the butcher's market controlled in medieval times by the Butcher's Guild, and therefore the only place you could buy meat at that time. It's stone construction outside and massive roof beams speak volumes for the wealth of Ghent at that time. It's worth...More

Old meat market. Worth a view. Didn't try the restaurant but went there to buy local produce before we left.

We went to Het Groot Vleeshuis to try some lokal cousine and boy were we not disappointed. We ordered a waterzooi which was perfect and this is coming from a guy who actively dislikes creamy soups. Additionally we tried the local meats and cheeses plate...More

Went for lunch on the off chance passing though. Great local food very casual and good service. Nice place to have lunch that's local food and not too pricey.

Our guide book suggested the old butchers' hall as a place to eat authentic Belgian foods, and the book was right. There seemed to be two options, a poshish looking bit behind a glass screen or a more cafe style eatery where the hams were...More

We stumbled into the old meat halls worn old and cold from hours of walking through rainy Ghent. The signs promised authentic Flemish food, so we decided to lunch and relax there. The menu consisted of a great variety of salads and soups mainly, and...More

Nice setting to stop for lunch whilst exploring Ghent. Service can be a little slow, but the platters of meat and sausage were excellent as were the little accompaniments like the fresh bread and the hot mustard.

A wise menu, in which the majority of products are local. Medium range prices, good food. The only concern: it was a bit weird to have to walk outside of the place to reach the toilet
