We were a bit lost ad couldn't find the street we needed. A local couple, passing by, overheard and gave directions. As we were looking for a pub, I asked them if there was anywhere good nearby. They told us to go to "The Beer House by the Water"...which, is probably a god local joke! The pub was small, crowded,... More

It's just a great place. It was quiet of tourists mid November but everyone inside was friendly and chatty. Beer selection is as good as any. As with all Belgium a bit of luck may be required when ordering (if like us you were new to it) but atmosphere was great both lunchtime Thursday and Friday night.

Headed for this beerhouse on a recommendation, and were not disappointed. The barman was very informative and pointed out the differing strengths of the beers. We opted for the weakest, at 6%!!. Tasted OK to me, but nothing spectacular. We tried a couple of beers while people watching, as the place was busy but not overcrowded. Nice atmosphere and good... More

I'm not a big beer drinker so not an aficionado, but this place was recommended by our walking tour guide as a place to try really local Belgian beers. Cute little spot right on the canal. The day we went was rainy and cold so this cozy spot was perfect - whether looking for beer or hot chocolate (as our... More

This bar by the water is a perfect spot to taste different Belgium beers all day long (be aware that they don't serve much food apart from cheese or ham plates). Friendly staff, nice spot. It is tiny so depending on your timing you might not find a place to sit down. Good atmosphere. Enjoy!

On the canal near city center. Cozy and authentic, friendly staff. Great beer and reasonable prices. If you're looking for lunch the choices are limited. You can get some cheese, or some ham, or a plate with a little salad, ham, and 4 slices of bread. Nothing special but something to eat. Small bar with 8-10 seats. 6 tables for... More

Excactly what it says to be: a beerhouse. They offer a great variety of beers, including local and self-brewed beers. The finger-food it good value and also local specialties. We had the paté.

This is a characterful watering hole which has an excellent selection of beers. The canal side location and quaint interior made it one of our favourite bars in Ghent!

Recommended by my cousin and husband who really and I mean really know their Belgian beers. Had the Gandavum, light hoppy 7.5% and Mammelokker dark and 6%. Excellent drinking house.
