Had a great time at the De Gastro tonight. Made our reservation at about 5:00 pm for 8:00 and had a great table overlooking beautiful Brugge. All our meals (4) were good and the price was on par with the other restaurants we had tried in Brugge. The service especially our main server Lan was excellent. You can tell the restaurant is a family run affair with all the staff truly invested in you, their clients , having the best dining experience possible. So if you end up going to De Gastro I'm pretty sure you will like your experience as much as we did

In a very center location (2 minutes from Rozenhoedkaai) De Gastro is restaurant with a menu that offers a variety of different classic French and Belgian dishes.
De Gasto is family owned and you can feel the passion and happiness put into the cooking and service by the people who work there from the first minute you sit down.
You cannot feel more welcome as a guest and more happy once you taste the first bite of the food that you have chosen.
I recommend the flemish taste set menu, but (as we went several times during our stay) the other dishes that we tried were also remarkable good.
The place is newly renovated and offers outside tables at the street in front of the restaurant and a “hidden” courtyard terrace.
The inside restaurant is also newly furnished and well decorated.
Next time Burges, we’ll go again!

With so many local restaurants offering almost identical menus, it’s hard to choose on face value.
Our experience of De Gastro stood out because - in a tourist location where most customers are here today, gone tomorrow - the owner is clearly motivated to get everything right (ingredients quality, preparation, service, ambiance, price), regardless of how often you might visit.
Excellent central location, eat inside or out.
In 3 days, our best meal in Bruges so far, and coincidentally the least expensive, doubly good value.

My mother and I found this family restaurant with local kitchen in the trip advisor. After having a really nice and super tasty food (we had mussels and beef stew served by a really friendly and nice stuff), we decided to come there again on the next day, and also the day after:) We also tried the fish stew, it was great! All the products are so fresh and the stuff told us they get a mussels delivery every day.
We hat absolutely great time having nice food and talking to the family which owns this restaurant.
Thank you for everything, you made our stay in Bruges even greater!

We visited the restaurant as a group of 8 on the last night of our weekend break to Bruges.
The restaurant is in a lovely location, it is very comfortable and modernly decorated.
I was very impressed with the quality of my food. I had the cheaper of the 2 set menus, starting with cheese croquettes, main course of delicious and well cooked (blue) steak, with a yummy pepper sauce and chips, finishing my meal with a flaming crème brûlée. The starters were served with really fresh, soft, bread with butter.
The meal was accompanied by very good wine, which was kept topped up.
We really enjoyed our meals and would recommend the restaurant to anyone visiting Bruges.

We chanced a walk up after a lot of ambling and menu reviewing through Bruges. It had been recommended to us by our Hotel so we asked if they could squeeze us in.
They pulled out all the stops to sort a table for us and the incredible service carried on at the same high standard throughout the night. Every member of the team were attentive, efficient, warm and friendly from the very first interaction to the last.
Now onto the food. We went to town. And it didn't disappoint. Three courses, healthy sized starters (The Salmon was incredible), Coq au Vin and a beautifully cooked steak followed by Creme Brulee and accompanied by three bottles of wine (well it was our anniversary) and Irish coffee, all for E160. They even brought a complimentary Jenever as a Digestif which warmed the soul for the stroll home.
We really can't recommend it highly enough.

We went here 3 times on a 4 day holiday (the second day they were closed) and it was delicious! We almost tried everything on the menu and can say that price-quality it’s one of the best in Brugge! We tried both menu’s and the cheese croquettes are the best we’ve ever had!
The owner is a super nice gentleman who clearly serves people with his heart! Anytime in Brugge you have to visit “De Gastro”. It’s in an ancient building but has a very nice interior and very good seats. You will be well taken care off!

Booked here based on reviews and menu. Booked in advance which I would advise. Warmly greeted and seated. Had cocktails while deciding what to eat. Split an order of the cheese croquettes followed by the carbonnades flamandes for him and the sole meuniere for me, Both accompanied by fries and a salad. Frites were perfect, fish wonderful, ditto the stew. Everything was delicious, service pleasant and the timing was spot on. We also had a half carafe of one of the house whites, okay not great considering the price. This meal was more expensive than others we've had of comparable or better quality so I am deducting a star for value. If you don't drink, it's reasonable.

We booked to come on a Saturday evening, but although busy, the restaurant is bigger than it appears outwardly. We opted for the daily menu, and were not disappointed,
All three courses were cooked to a high standard, and the price (for Bruges) was reasonable. Staff were pleasant and welcoming, and spoke excellent English, though the menus were translated. Noted that wine prices were expensive, but as we were drinking beer that wasn't a problem, on this visit!

We arrived at the restaurant without a booking, we needed a table for 6 and was told one would be available in 30 minutes. we went for a drink and came back. The welcome was really warm and the table was ready. Everything about the evening was great. Food good and recommendation on wine spot on and nothing too much trouble. We were the only ones left in the restaurant and was assured there was no rush to leave. Thank you to all the staff for making us welcome.

We were a group of 9 celebrating an 80th Birthday in Bruges and chose this restaurant for the actual Birthday night celebration. We were not disapointed. We were treated like returning regulars, all of the staff were friendly, attentive and humerous without being overbearing. There had been a slight miscommuniocation with timings but the staff couldnt have done more to accomodate us - this issue is far from a negative but a positive in terms of how they dealt with it. The food was also excellent, all 9 meals were perfect and it was not just the best steak i'd had in Bruges but this was definately the best restaurant of this trip. Highly recommended, We'll be back. (Thanks for the surpise platters)

Superb location, excellent ambiance, attentive and fantastic service.
Set menus we're excellent value and the quality was sensational. Some of the tastiest mussels I've ever had, steak was perfect, fish stew looked like a work of art and tasted great. All washed down with the superb Italian CabSav. Finished with flaming creme brulé.
Family run restaurant. Great friendly service, with a shot at the end on the house! Highly recommended.

Entree of Shrimp Croquette was outstanding. Rabbit leg for main was excellent. Flemish Beef Stew was good but would have loved winter vegetables with meal as opposed to summer salad.
Service was excellent and atmosphere good.

The Flemish Tasting Menu is AMAZING. 39 Euro for a 3 set menu. I had the Mussels, Beef Carbonnade, and the Speculaas Delicia.
The mussels were cooked in this delicious leek, mire-poix and parsley broth, perfectly tender and in season in July. Get a spoon, as the broth is very refreshing, especially for summer!
Next, the beef carbonnade was very comforting, with a smooth, sweet and sour beefy, onion, bay leaf and thyme blend stew. The beef was so tender, you could pull it apart with your fork. I’d recommend dipping your Belgian frites in the lovely stew.
Finally, the Speculaas Delicia. Speculaas is a spiced shortbread biscuit, but they made this into a light, sweet and gently warming cake, with crumbled speculaas, a refreshing vanilla whipped cream, and a moist Speculaas cake crumb. I’d take a bite of the cake, then follow it up with the fruit compote to cut through the sweetness and to prime you for your next bite of cake.
All in all, amazing experience with polite, attentive service. Would recommend to all my friends who want a true taste of Brugge, especially when pressed for time.
