The place is very cousy and the food is very tasty. We ordered some Lapas and then fresh fish (Pargo) and a nice beef stake with Sao jorge cheese. Everything was delicious and the sidings are local and super tasty (green beens, sweet potatos). A...bit pricy but worth going!More

Incredible food, service and location (stunning panoramic Pico view). Everything we tried was just perfect, the fish and lapas cataplana, grilled fish or the grilled rib steak.

Thanks to my wife sending me off to the Azores this past October on a reconnaissance mission before the whole family goes over for two weeks next June, I had the pleasure of spending three nights in St. George at the Hotel Os Moinhos, where...Fornos de Lava is located. Between the sincere warmth and friendliness of the family that runs it and a delectable pallet of regional culinary delights served, I did not want to leave. I had many choices to taste the island's home-grown delights but actually had dinner two nights there and breakfast for three straight days. Admit-tingly I felt spoiled to say the least. Each forkful of food brought a smile to my face and what a great way to end a long day of hiking and sightseeing then next to a fire with people you just met who you felt were family. Cannot wait to go back in June with my wife, children and friends.More

This place is hard to find in the evening. We had GPS and we even had someone point out the way and still we passed the sign. So if you are following your GPS and you know you are getting close look for a small...sign on the corner of a building. The restaurant does have more parking than you might think at first glance. We used the internet to make reservations. If you want to eat in the 1900 to 200 hours time block you should try to get reservations, however we saw at least one large family group come in a little later and they were accommodated. For appetizers we had the local sausages and olives. For the main course we had the shrimp and meat/veal dish for two. (It was actually more than enough for two.) With the sausage appetizer we were stuffed at after our meal. We would highly recommend our main dish and the sausages but I can assure you that if you are only two people that is more than enough.More

....you never know what can happen ! First Time it was very nice we had a table without réservation, very beautifu place and a perfect filet mignon wich is not easy to find in this area ! A little expansive but it’s worth it. But...the day after we came back and half of the dishes on the card were missing and on top of that we had to wait two hours for two steaks wich was not what we ordered...we had the Time to drink the whole bottle of wine so we did not feel very Well when the food arrived..the explanation given by the boss was that we stayed on the terrasse half an hour for a first drink but she could not manage the outside and inside restaurant. Anyway, we were very disappointed that evening !More

Good view of Pico Mountain. Service was very slow and food the food average. We ate better and less expensive elsewhere. Need transport to get there unless staying at the attached hotel.

This place is located in santo amaro just above Velas giving you a lovely view over pico. The food is ok but over priced and the service is slow. In 2 we had a bottle of wine, a little bottle of water, 2 starters the...cataplana (with fish, shyrimp and clam which alone was 60 euros) and a dessert and paid over 100 eurosMore
