The food and wine were both fantastic. The owner was welcoming and took the time to explain everything on your plate and in your glass which made for a personable experience. Highly recommend very good very nice
We tried the mixed board , mushrooms and black pork as suggested and also had three wines of the house choice - each better than the one before. We could have eaten/drunk cheaper but were left feeling full and happy !
Quite expensive cheese and sausage platter, but a good selection of local produce, unfortunately the cheeses were all quite strong tasting completely killing the taste of the sausages, some harmony is missing. The served port wine had residues in it, the waiter did change one...glass but not the other.
That said, it’s a fairly cozy place with an impressive selection of wine and a very knowledgeable waiter, I would go there again for wine and nuts, but not for dinner, the food price does not quite match the quality and serving.More
the place is great - it is basically right in the city center which first stopped us from going in. but the reviews were so good that we went in. the place is so hidden that it does not matter that it is straight in...the center, as no-one would probably go in just passing by.
once you walk in - you immediately feel comfortable. the place is warm and small and the (what i can only assume is the) owner greets you straight away. let him suggest wines for you - he found 3 for each of us which we all loved.
the food is nice and completely different to most/any restaurants - it is a tapas place and they are all nice!More
Such a cool place to spend an evening. We sampled a selection of wines, meats, cheeses, and breads and everything was just superb. The staff are clearly very knowledgeable and are more than happy to make suggestions. It's a little on the pricier side but...don't let that put you off, it's well worth it.More
This is an experience to go to Reserva bar !
We didn't know really what to expect but in the end this was a very good evening.
The owner is truly friendly, passioned by his bottles, and of a very good advice regarding the kind...of wine you want.
On a slightly negative note the restaurant is quite dark and more important it was really cold inside.
For the food, we went for the mixed platter for 2 and this was really really good !! The differents hams, the sausages, the warm bread and the cheeses were really tasty. And as there different kinds for each, even if you don't like one, you still have others to taste.
Last, if you take the old goat cheese (refined 1 year and 9 months) be prepared !! This is a cheese for true lovers of very strong cheeses !!! I loved it but it was too much for my wife ;-)
So overall, we can really recommend to try Reserva barMore
When you walk into Reserva and are met by owner and sommelier Bruno Antunes, you know immediately that you are in the presence of someone who takes both wine and service seriously. While you can, of course, order wine from the exhaustive, all-Portuguese wine list,...you can also let Bruno select for you and listen enraptured as he not only explains the flavour profile of the wines and the characteristics of each grape variety involved, but also fills you in on the history of the region of origin and even the winery itself. He is patient and determined to provide gracious, personal attention to each of his customers no matter how busy the restaurant or how many people are waiting. If you are looking for fast food and brusque service, Bruno would advise you, please go elsewhere. As a result, the tables are few, and because of the Reserva’s well-deserved popularity based on its comfortable atmosphere, extraordinary range of wines, Bruno’s encyclopedic wine knowledge, and the excellent food, it’s not always easy to get a seat. But it is well worth the wait. While wine is the focus here, Reserva offers wonderful local cheeses, traditional Azorean sausages (the red wine sausage was one of the best sausage I’ve ever eaten) and other tapas dishes. Each is selected directly by Bruno, most locally accessed from nearby farms and small-scale producers. We had a wonderful, unhurried and truly memorable evening.More
This was an absolute gem of a place.
I went for my first dinner in PDL on a recommendation, and was not disappointed. I put myself in the hands of the owner, explaining that I was a wine geek. :-)
He adjusted a menu selection,...very kindly combining two items (since I was on my won) for a super plate of various items. The pace was calm, lighting dim...just a lovely spot.
On the wines, we chatted a bit and I let him lead me around the country with several fine wines. One was stupendous, and after that I felt I ended on a lower note. Well on that, he brought me out a small Madeira on the house to make sure it ended on a high note!
(One note: this restaurant specifically features wines from OUSIDE the Azores.)
All in all, excellent service, friendly environment, great selection of wines by the glass and a superb ambience.More
Lovely little place with an impressive wine selection and well presented. A passionate owner, serving a classic offer of Portuguese products. Lovely bread, great sausages and canned goods. But my pallet cried out for freshness and acidity. Everything is salty, fat, heavy and generous. It...was a little too much for me. But that's me... No three, but a four dot appreciation, 'cause he's for real.More
