When you walk into Reserva and are met by owner and sommelier Bruno Antunes, you know immediately that you are in the presence of someone who takes both wine and service seriously. While you can, of course, order wine from the exhaustive, all-Portuguese wine list,...you can also let Bruno select for you and listen enraptured as he not only explains the flavour profile of the wines and the characteristics of each grape variety involved, but also fills you in on the history of the region of origin and even the winery itself. He is patient and determined to provide gracious, personal attention to each of his customers no matter how busy the restaurant or how many people are waiting. If you are looking for fast food and brusque service, Bruno would advise you, please go elsewhere. As a result, the tables are few, and because of the Reserva’s well-deserved popularity based on its comfortable atmosphere, extraordinary range of wines, Bruno’s encyclopedic wine knowledge, and the excellent food, it’s not always easy to get a seat. But it is well worth the wait. While wine is the focus here, Reserva offers wonderful local cheeses, traditional Azorean sausages (the red wine sausage was one of the best sausage I’ve ever eaten) and other tapas dishes. Each is selected directly by Bruno, most locally accessed from nearby farms and small-scale producers. We had a wonderful, unhurried and truly memorable evening.More
