Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Walked just around the corner from the main tourist spots and found this place. Whilst there was no English menu displayed outside it appeared to be full of locals. There was an English menu inside. This looks to be a family run venue. The service...is friendly. Probably the most authentic meal I’ve had in Portugal on this visit. Had a 1/2 carafe of house wine. We had an small portion of grilled sardines as an entree. We love the seafood rice and they did one with monkfish and large prawns. This could easily feed 4 for lunch and was packed with fish. There was bread with local goats cheese. The desserts looked sensational but we were too full. We had a few cold beers and the whole lot was less than €70 ( the seafood rice was as more than half but is huge).More

We had a very traditional Portuguese meal here, sitting at the bar. Just grilled meat with rice and salad for two. It was plain but very tasty, cooked over a charcoal fire. All very fresh and on show. Half carafe of house wine and a...bottle of sparkling water came to €30 with tip. They only had space at the bar but it was comfortable and great fun talking to the Portuguese diners on either side! Very friendly. Needed to use google translate with the nice waiter who was 78! Good fun and good meal.More

I've been to this restaurant three times over about 8 years (once accompanied and the other two times on my own - I travel for work), and each time I am reminded of why I haven't been more often. It's a traditional Portuguese restaurant but...is musty in decoration and in service. It's very old school, bordering on the seedy. The meal starts with the typical Portuguese practice of slapping down bread, cheese, olives and butter on your table with no mention of the cost of each item (yes, you pay if you eat, and the total cost would be around 7-8 euros!) To be fair to the restaurant, this is quite normal in Portugal, but has always felt dishonest to me. Why put anything on the table I have not ordered? Reminds me of gypsies in busy tourist squares offering lavendar. This time I ordered the picanha, which came hard as a patent leather shoe. When I asked the waitress if it wasn't normal to ask the customer how they wanted the meat, she said yes! So why didn't she ask me? No idea. Actually I do have an idea: on the two occasions I've eaten there alone, I've felt that a solo diner is a second class diner. You're given a table in some kind of dark corner or next to a busy waiter service area, as though you didn't really exist. I didn't have desert as I wasn't comfortable and just wanted to finish my meal and pay. I won't be writing any more reviews on this restaurant as I will most certainly not return. The previous evening I went to a different restaurant in Aveiro where I was received with a smile, offered "any table I wanted" and enjoyed the food and wine.More

Excellent traditional restaurant in the centre of Aveiro. Much larger than it seems from outside but on the evening of our visit full of satisfied diners. Good standard of Portuguese cuisine (we had a very good and large octopus dish) and very moderate prices. House...wine one of the best we experienced in Portugal. Recommended.More

I got the goat. It was spectacularly marinated and stewed with cabbage and potatoes. My wife got the bacalhau a bras and, while I'm no fan of cod, I liked it well enough. Everyone at the table loved what they selected, and portions were large,...so we could share. The wine suggestions were great as well. Even the restaurant manager next door, raves about the place, which has been around for 40 years or more.More

We came to O Telheiro by recommendation of my cousin who had been there before. She said we should get one plate for 2 people. So we got the one portion instead of the half portion and oh my God, it still was so big....We could not finish everything! So you should come here if you are really hungry. Maybe even the half portion will be too much for one person. We had thr bacalao a nata. The price was about 19 euro so like 8 per person. So it is cheap. Good value. There can be waiting line in front of it.More

This is a smashing restaurant. This was our first time dining here. We had a lovely meal in a relaxed environment. The guys here are absolute professionals and gave so much attention and chat to tables in a personalised manner.

We went to this restaurant seeing it packed with local people. We were inspired by the popularity and decided to give it a try. It was a great choice: they offered local dishes of meat and fresh local fish at affordable prices. We had the...sardinha asada and the fried eels. The portions were abundant, and we were full by the end of the meal. The service was great too, and we were impressed by how fast the food arrived considering the place was packed! Would come back again.More

The staff are friendly but they work poorly, very slow and avoid to be called. The food has good quality. Their speciality is fish.

Typically Portuguese fare, portions tend to be large and food feels like homemade. Prices are fair, but marginally on the high end of fair. Friendly service too

Super slow and sullen service, highly over salted pork grill (I love salt but this was over the top). Decent vibe on the interior though. But there has to be better ways to spend your money and time than in this place.
