This place was just around the corner from the apartment, so it was a convenient choice for a first night dinner. The food was Ok, without being outstanding. We shared the octopus salad (which had a bit too much green capsicum for one of us), the garlic prawns and the seafood rissotto. The service was well meaning but a bit... More

We found the Fabulosa by chance while looking for a place for dinner. It's in a lovely courtyard along with other restaurants. Tables inside have old sewing machines. Service was prompt and friendly. The food was delicious and we would love to go back. Highly recommended!

Housed in an ancient building, this restaurant is quirky and interesting, with its well spaced out, mismatched furniture, although it is pretty sparse and so lacking in atmosphere. Food is good - we had cod croquettes (of course), garlic prawns, cod "brazas" and roasted octopus. All were well cooked and seasoned, though maybe not "wow". Food and wine decently priced.... More

Fabulas (tales) has been one of my favorite tables in lisbon. Because you actually feel inside a sweet and old charming tale, may it be because of the cavish style, the wooden grandma house tables, the chandeliers taken out of a film and the books everywhere...this is one of a kind. And then there's the sweet esplanade in a delicious... More

We were 20 people for the brunch (we of course have booked it a month ago) but service still needs to be improved. It Was a buffet and despite it, we waited almost 20 minutes to get our drinks (fresh orange Juice, multivitamin juices and coffees). The food was ok even it needed to be refilled longly. Thank you for... More

For lunch, we went to a fantastic café called Fábulas, which we’d read about in our travel guide [the good one I talked about in earlier posts]. Using half my memory and half Google maps, it’s on Calcada Nova de São Francisco. To get there, we had walked down Rua Garrett until it ended perpendicular to Rua Nova do Almada... More

We have been here twice in a week because it was near our hotel. We tried all sort of dishes (vegetarian, meat, fish) and appreciated all of them. The desserts were good as well. The selection of wines is not wide, but they are good. The restaurant has a nice vintage design, and the waiters are competent and polite. The... More

Hidden in an old building tucked behind an archway this adorable restaurant offers a diverse authentic menu in a series of whimsically decorated rooms with candelabras! The staff is friendly and responsive. Seemed to attract a nice crowd. Loved that we could see the cooks through a large window from our table. Great value

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
