Wonderfully knowledgeable owner. Gave us tastes before choosing a glass. Had a delicious cheese and charcuterie plate. Delightful break after the Castelo de Sao Jorge. Highly recommended!

Dropped by on the way down from the castle in Lisbon and spent a fantastic couple of hours in great conversation with the owner. Phenomenally knowledgable about the extensive range of great wines he stocks and keen to share his knowledge - and didn't mind explaining to neophytes! Not an extensive food menu - it's about wine after all -... More

Popped in here early evening . Had some delightful tapas and drank some great red wines on recommendation of barman. Wine by glass let's you taste different varieties and knowledgeable chat from barman makes a great starter to an evening. Going back to try some whites!

We visited here twice while staying in Alfama... tell them what you like, sample a few recommendations, then enjoy a glass or two of your favorites. Add a generous charcuterie and/or cheese plate, and enjoy! Get there early before the small room fills up and they lock the door.

If you want to taste quality wines and get a good guide to the selection at the same time a light dinner - this is the place. Great concept for tasting - Tasting three glasses and choose one who is served with tapas - and this is done for each glass you want - even port. The guide is unique,... More

We really wanted to go to this wine bar as it was recommended to us. We showed up at 945 and we were immediately told that the place closed at 10. Later, when we walked by over an hour later, they were still serving patrons at that time. It was rude for them not to serve us initially.

We went here to have a glass of wine without knowing anything about the place. What we got was an introduction to Portuguese wine. The guy who owns the place, let us taste three different wines and choose a glass from them. He could also tell us about Portuguese wine and could answer any question we had about wines. We... More

not far from the entrance to the Castle in a busy street, we nevertheless were greeted warmly coming down from the castle at peak lunch time. our party of six was not problem and extra space made for us, with tables pulled together, even if they half blocked the entrance. three reds and three whites were presented, once we had... TL;DR A grand place for palate pleasers staffed with angels. The people who worked in the bar when we went were supremely friendly and welcoming. They brought us a range of wines they knew plenty about so we can make an informed decision. We also had some bread and olives, as well as some port which were all fantastic.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
