Was first recommended to attend in January 2011 then again in April 2015 and now February, 2017. Earlier in the week while walking through Alfama, we passed by la Mesa de Frades and found that it was being renovated. However, it had temporarily moved to...More

The place is in Alfarma, Food was excellent, and live Fado music was just so beautiful. I had the best grilled cod fish, typical Portuguese dish that was perfectly cooked. The paintings on the wall of the old chapel and Fado music magically blend together...More

Mesa is an ancient chapel that now offers an authentic experience of fine food and fado. A late dinner is served and at about 22:00 (could be later) the owner - a talented Portuguese guitar player arrives, and the fado begins. At this time the...More

You'd never know this place by just walking by it. Someone has to tell you about it. People in the know come here for excellent food. Seasoning tastes like home. We know many places in Lisbon and this is really special.

Food is fine, wine is ok... and you wait and wait and wait... but at the end, the fado miracle takes place. And the atmosphere is just perfect for fado.

Located in Alfama, one of the oldest districts of Lisbon. Today, Alfama has become a dense tourist area, but it has not yet lost all its charm. You'll find lots of small taverns, restaurants, Fado houses. This Fado house is set in an old chapel...More

We had reservations for our group and I would recommend you do the same as the place is quite small. Charming, typical Portuguese interior with azulejo(s) on the walls, a small bar, and an interesting oversized door. All the reviews for the food were so...More

Great music, good food and nice service. It's expensive but worth every penny for an intimate, cosy night. The food and wine is generous meaning we left home feeling nice and relaxed. No hidden charges or concerns as there often are with this kind of...More

This place is wonderful for those who love fado music - we enjoyed every moment of being there. And please - do not expect for gourmet experience, it is about fado! The food was edible, the main dish was even good, the wine potable... And...More

Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and,
of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music.
The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755
destroyed most of the city but the contiguous
neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained
standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent
Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the
Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of
