Good coffee, freshly squeezed fruit juice, fresh pastry, great service, sensible price. Don't expect to be treated any different to a local.

This is an authentic Lisbon experience - a local sandwich shop serving a simple sandwich menu along with some fresh juices. The only nod towards pre-packaged was the accompanying crisps and the beer and coke. Having read the lonely planet, I guess, like others I was expecting something a little more gourmet with at least a garnish or some relish... More

Visited based on the rave Lonely Planet review and hugely disappointed. The service was hurried and unfriendly and whilst the bread rolls are nice, the pork was fatty and bland. My daughter had the fresh cheese roll and regretted not following suit.

Pork suckling sandwich was nice but a little dry as it is just pork & bun only. No sauce, no salad. It was fresh and it was tasty but just wasnt anything other than average. Staff & food were very fast.

We had dinner here when we visited Lisboa. The food was delicious. The staff was nice but the poor guys were extremely busy. I highly recommend this place for a fast lunch or dinner.

With a sign like that and the suckling pig in window, had to stop and get a quick sandwich in the middle of a hot day walking around. Pineapple and ginger juice and a roast piggy sandwich. Perfect!

Unless you have read Lonely Planet, I'm pretty sure you would just walk past this dive bar but it would be a mistake. Freshly pressed juices and good value sandwiches, the most popular being the suckling piglet, perfect for quick bite. Yum!

My girlfriend and I both bought the pork bun to takeaway and both of us were a little disappointed. The pork and the bun is nice yes, but it's a tad on the small side, especially for €4.50. If you're thinking of going here for lunch, then you may need to buy two to fill you up.

What a gem of a place! Don't expect plush seatings and a warm ambience. This is a wonderfully good cheap and cheerful place that serves amazing Portuguese snacks and meals. The tarts - Natas - and sandwiches are amazing. Gets tight and squeezy at peak hours - but it never disappoints.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
