Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a delightful find on a nice plaza near the river by the Fado museum in Lisbon. The staff, especially Bruno will make you feel at home. The owner Victor Horta, brews his own beer, wine and liquor. So don’t miss trying these. The...fare is simple, but delicious. I particularly recommend the Azores cheese with pepper jelly. If you are looking for a light meal or snack and place to relax a bit while site seeing, this is a great spot!More

We were super disappointed with our experience there tonight. We sat down after thinking it was a cute looking little cafe. The menu looked decent with a couple of vegetarian selections. My sister had a hamburger which she said was fine and I ordered a...vegetarian burger. It was noted on the menu as a vegan burger. Once it arrived, I took one bite and determined after having my sister taste it too that it was a meat based burger! I have had many plant meat based burgers in my lifetime and can tell how meat would taste since I used to also eat it a few years back. I kindly mentioned to the server and he went in to get the cook. The cook came out and basically just said he knows what a meat burger would be like and said it was a vegetarian burger. He literally said this and walked away! No apology, no mention of a replacement meal, absolutely nothing! Needless to say I remained hungry as pushed the plate aside. The burger actually looked pink inside and grossed me out to the point that I couldn't eat anything. This was a meat burger that was served to me but neither the cook or the server were decent enough to come back and check. Pretty pathetic and sad experience needless to say. We left after paying for the food and didn't choose to say anything honestly because it was pointless and we could see that they didn't care. Please run far away from this place as not only is it beyond mediocre but they lack common courtesy and customer service.More

Yesterday night we were here for a drink and today for a late dinner. The service and the public were very nice. The main waiter made us a very good gin and tonic and the waitress is very friendly and can't be missed because of...her English knowledge. There is a nice mix of foreigners and Portugese people that mix in a nice way. There was only one guy that was eating on his own and was quite serious. The second night we found out he is probably the owner. He don't contribute to the atmosphere. If you don't trust your own employees, better to dine somewhere else. They are professionals, so let them work freely.More

After busy morning of walking all through Alfama, I found the perfect sunny table. I’ve ordered Sangria and a delicious grilled octopus. The service was a bit slow, but I think it’s part of the Portuguese culture. Wasn’t disappointed as was enjoying the sunshine and...cherish the moment. Then… By the next table sat man of my life! That was my Lisbon Story. The story never ended. Thank you Camilla!More

We'd been on our way to another restaurant, which turned out to be closed, and ended up here as it looked busy and they had tables in the sunshine. We sat down and decided on toasted bread with garlic butter and padron peppers to start...and the ubiquitous bacalao for main. The waitress obviously wasn't paying attention as the peppers never emerged. We had a look at the wine list and had chosen a bottle of white, only to be told there was only 1 wine available - the house wine, apparently made by the owner's vineyard. It was pretty decent as it happens but what's the point of a wine list if you only offer house? The food was ok, nothing outstanding but not awful either. The table beside us had a party of 3 - we got talking and they were celebrating the 90th birthday of the gentleman on the table. They were off the cruise ship sitting at the dock. While we were chatting they'd ordered some Gingha and the surly waiter poured and when they said it was a cherry brandy he corrected them and said it wasn't brandy - his manner though was very off hand. They apologised for their mistake to which he just grunted. As they were talking to one of the waitresses they mentioned the big birthday. They got their bill - no gesture made as regards the birthday - a bit of a shame. A different waitress came to take our order for dessert, she was very pleasant - the best of those attending, but still walked away leaving our finished plates behind, only to have to manoeuvre our desserts around them. A bit haphazard. As the title says the food was ok, nothing special but fine. Service a bit less so. Wouldn't return.More

If you want to spend an hour waiting for mediocre food, then this is your place. Came for lunch, waited over an hour after we ordered our food and then we’re terribly disappointed in what was served. The octopus salad, was served in a 4...inch round dish that was about an inch high. Very small portion and was much more of a starter. Expensive too. Definitely a tourist restaurant with overpriced and underwhelming food. Skip this place!More

The most unfriendly service experienced in all of Lisbon. We were not sure if it was the boss. In any case, he was without a T-shirt of the restaurant like the others in the service. We were there shortly before 16.00h. No welcome. Menue card...slapped on the table. We ordered Rosé Spumante. When we asked for something small to go with it, the unfriendly answer was: look in the menu! Later we ordered Gambas, the order was acknowledged with a pained sigh and a shrug of the shoulders. The Gambas were over fried, the shells were almost impossible to remove. Later, a "normal" waiter cleared the table and collected the money. He was very friendly. The only bad experience during our Lisbon stay, we realy did not feel welcome.More

Nice Location opposite the Fado museum. We sat outside, a couple of items on the menu had sold out but otherwise really great experience. Seemed to be one chef and one waiter managing the whole thing very efficiently. My steak was cooked nicely, my other...half had the baked eggs, which she enjoyed. The sangria was good and the desserts sweet and delicious. Worth a visit if you like simple food cooked well. The only downside.. its located at the bottom of the hill!More

Waited a lot longer than Portuguese people who arrived after us to be offered a menu and then for our order to be taken and the drinks to arrive - 4 coffees, nothing complicated. Plenty of serving staff, rushing around but not doing very much.

The front desk at our hotel recommended this place and glad we are that they did. We ate outdoors, which is across the street from the Museu do Fado, and were very comfortable in the January chill, due in part,no doubt by the heaters above us....We ordered Portuguese standards , Gambas ajillo and bacalau a bras and both were nicely prepared and tasty. The bacalau far superior to its rendition I had tried elsewhere. Our waiter recommended a vinho tinto that accompanied our meal very well and provided complimentary ginjinha and an orange liquer at the conclusion of our meal. And it was all very reasonably priced. Not haute cuisine just well prepared good foodMore

I, too, came across this place by accident and just loved it. The sangria was tasty. We had some peppers sautéed in olive oil with chorizo and some cheese from the Azores with a spicy jelly. The freshly baked bread was a perfect companion to...our tasty lunch. The server was very informative and suggested the items. She did not try to upsell us but was eager for us to enjoy our lunch.More

My Fiancé and I had an absolutely gorgeous Lunch here today. I Have to say some of the poor reviews I have read, I am flabbergasted by. We went for a long walk and stumbled across this place by accident and felt the need to...write a review purely because of the lovely experience we had. The food was brilliant, as too was the bottle of local wine and a couple of delicious Gin&Tonics to finish, all for a really good price! Best quality and value for money meal we have had here so far. Would most definitely recommend. I think the bad reviews on here are because people dont quite get the portuguese way... not being rushed in and out of a restaurant, relaxing while having a drink is part of the way things are done in the Mediterranean in general. Lunch is a good couple of hours and that's what it's all about. Also giving 1 star for eggs on toast? That's pretty shameful. Eggs on toast is eggs on toast. Would definitely recommend and would 100% go back : ) Thank you. M&M London UK.More
