Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We would come back to Portugal for this place alone. The food was insanely good and the chef was delightful and funny and sarcastic and charming and insanely talented at her craft. Unbelievably great experience.

I ordered grilled chicken, ribs, and sausage, plus mashed potatoes and salad. All the meat and mashed potatoes were VERY SALTY to the point that it's no longer edible! How can you eat those??!! Also, the ribs were 2 inches long and dry. The chicken...is okay but not great? are you kidding? The lady cook was curt and looked miserable in what she was doing - grilling! Maybe because of all the smoke she gets. She seemed mad at me for no reason at all. She didn't smile and look you up as she handed me the meal and shoved us to take and eat elsewhere. She gave preferential treatment to regulars who could skip the line and sit down to eat. She didn't care if you came from afar and went out of your way to try the food because of the misleading TripAdvisor rating. All HYPE. Up to now, I wonder what people see in this place. But read all the reviews that gave it average, poor, and terrible, and you will know why. She is only good to people she knows from the neighborhood, so if you're not from there, please understand that you are not welcome. Not worth the trip at all. Too local for comfort. The next day, our Palacio Anunciada Hotel concierge pointed us to Bonjardim for the best Portuguese grilled chicken.More

BEWARE!!! The food is inexpensive, but choices are limited, and bbq chicken is good but cook/griller has the worst customer service! She must think she is a Top Chef! You have to humor her to win her service. She is selective as to who gets...to sit in the 6 seater table, regardless whether you were first in line! So most just do take out. Doesn’t accept credit card also. There are a lot of good chicken we found elsewhere in Bairro Alto and the area so just look and you’ll find something else!More

All I can sai, this was an amazing experience. Sonia is so nice, she cooks the best food I have ever eat. Place is crowded, so make a table reservation and enjoy the entire experience here.

There was a line immediately upon opening. The food looke great. Tiny place, maybe 10 seats, so takeout seemed like the plan. We watched in amazement/horror as the 1 employee yelled at a child, refused to honor reservations for 2 groups, then allowed a reservation...for a 3rd couple(???). She also refused take out service to the couple in line ahead of us, so at that point, we just cut & ran. Lisbon is a cosmopolitan city with hundreds, if not thousands, of great places to eat. This is not one of them👎More

Remembering Piri Piri chicken of my youth, I asked for the best in Lisbon and was directed here. Absolutely the best food in Lisbon! Piri Piri chicken slow cooked on a charcoal grill, sliced tomatoes and onions, rice and vegetables. Simply outstanding!!

The chicken, ribs and susage was very good, but it is what it is, meat and rice. The sauce spectacular though. The lady is rude and blunt but very funny. I would say it is a must visit if you are here more so for...the show. And as others have said - be there early! Also very cheap.More

Got there about 15 minutes early on a Tuesday and was first in line (I actually got there earlier but hours were different than what’s posted here/online). Not a big problem since we were staying nearby, so we just got some drinks and came back....The chicken is as good as the reviews claimed. Flavorful, juicy, and plentiful (Mista 1 x 2). Sausage and ribs were also good but the chicken really shines. Curry and basmati garlic rice were solid pairings as well. I meant to order a salad, but not gonna lie, the reviews got me spooked so I didn’t want to ask for more and screw up. It ended up not being anything to worry about, though - chef and staff - daughter?- were nice and definitely hooked up the serving. Worthy of a return visit and a restaurant I’d recommend to anyone visiting Lisbon. Definitely do take away, though.More

The food is amazing. Rustic, but delicious. Very fresh. Not open for lunch. Only dinner and not every night. Not everyone will appreciate the blunt humor of the woman owner/chef who runs a 1 person restaurant. We loved it and her!

One of the best, most authentic, and homely meals I've gotten in Lisbon. The piri piri chicken was the best chicken I've tasted in recent mind; the same with the fried and garlic rice. Small and cozy operations - with little space to actually dine,...but most people got takeaway anyway. A place I can recommend, but do please consider that it is a one (wo)man show and the food takes a while to cook as it is made to order and a little unorganized, so patience and understanding is key. The arguably best and least best thing about the place is the cook; showing kindness (for not taking any tips, however much you may insist on it), friendliness for taking an interest in the people that eat at the restaurant and a bit of cheekyness for the way of joking with people in line and denying people to come in when there were not any more food to cook. All in all, I can give the restaurant and the cook my best recommendation, which is that if I'm ever to set foot in Lisbon again, my only insistence will be to eat at this place.More

Truly one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Better than most 3 Michelin star. A bit chaotic due to few tables and only 1 employees. But dig into the chaos and make friends and you’ll have the time of your life. Twice I have...connected through LIS just to eat here.More

Went here last night. Walked over 40mins to get there and as I got to the door a couple rushed in past me. There was a small queue so at that point I was last in the queue. From the counter a woman shouts "no...food" with her hand up looking like she wanted to stop traffic with her eyes pointed directly at me. There are more mannerly ways to describe that you are closing or out of chicken. The couple in front of me stayed in the queue, it's honestly like I was singled out, only one person! I simply nodded and left thinking to myself, that was one of the rudest people I ever came across in a restaurant. I came here because of the reviews and a video I seen on YouTube. I can honestly that the food probably is amazing but on this occasion I was left with a sour taste. I won't be returning. Thanks a lot! From there I went to Bom Jardim after reading some reviews and I can say that I was blown away by the great service and the Piri Piri Chicken was the best I have ever had!More
