It was me and my husbands first time visiting Lisboa and I scoured trip advisor looking for a place to have dinner and listen to Fado music without spending upwards of 100 euro in Alfama. I stumbled across this gem and I’m so thankful I...did. Nuno was an amazing host. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked in, even though the restaurant was packed with big groups. We ordered some tapas that were absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The Fado performance didn’t start as scheduled, but Nuno was so kind to Invite us downstairs to watch a performance for a group he had downstairs. Nuno played the guitar for the performance and I really enjoyed my experience here. I went back to the hotel very happy. Thank you so much Nuno!More

The owner of Coimbra Taberna is clearly passionate about his home-town of Coimbra, and this carries over into the food. I had 'Coimbra Goat' which was quite exceptional. A wide range of good wines is also available.

Excellent food, and wonderful service. Must go while in Lisbon. The grilled sausage, pork soup, and sangria.

I strongly recommend this place who wants to feel Fado in the heart. Everything was amazing! Do not forget! Fado perform is only Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Before you go there, you should check availability.

We found this place by accident. It looks all quiet from the outside and is down a staircase but don’t be put off! The food is wonderful - proper Portuguese food, great flavours and the owner has excellent taste in wine! He also plays the...Portuguese guitar and on Fado nights he plays, along with a classical guitarist and singer who has an amazing voice! He speaks excellent English & tells the story of Fado. This is not a 'touristy' place but a genuine eatery with a great atmosphere and is well worth a visit. We went twice! Make sure you try the 'grilled sausage' - sounds boring but it is flaming fab!More

The atmosphere is really nice. The owner serves you dinner and after sings for you. He has two other companions for the performance and the one with the voice is very dedicated:) Very nice place, good food, wine and extraordinary people.

Slightly away from the main shops and other restaurants, luckily we walked past this restaurant each day and it caught our eye. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. It’s always a good sign when you have a whole long table next to you of...what looked to be locals enjoying themselves too. We tried the beef strips with mustard - very good! We also had the the sautéed vegetables, prawns - so so tasty, cod, even the bread and cheese to start was great. We came out thinking the price was great for all of this too including a glass of red wine - so a good time all round! Thanks!More

Had a marvellous dinner there in mid-July, on my last night in Lisbon. I wish i had discovered it sooner. The place was not nearly as busy as it deserved to be. The best garlic prawns in ages, and a very generous portion too, 8...large prawns for 10,50 euros. The Grilled cheese with almonds and balsamic honey was another delight. The wine was very reasonably priced at 4 euros for a large glass and the service was top-notch. i would revisit in a heartbeatMore

We did not know that there would be music when we booked, so the Fado performance was a nice surprise. The passion of the music was incredible. And the food really good too - amazing value for money, taking the waiters recommendations for both food...and wine. A great evening.More

I was visiting Portugal on my own and stopped by this restaurant in the afternoon because I saw that it was featuring Fado that evening. I was met by a very kind staff member who reserved a table for me near the front where I...would be able to watch the Fado. I returned in the evening and found the ambiance to be really delightful. I felt very comfortable being there on my own even though it was a Saturday night and everybody else was in company. I had very good padron peppers prepared with almonds and balsamic vinegar to begin. The main course of pork and vegetables was served just as the fado began. The dish was underwhelming as the vegetables were overcooked. The Fado was fantastic though. The kind staff member turned out to be one of the performers, playing the Portuguese guitar. There was an elderly man singing with them whose voice was truly beautiful. At one point, a young fellow sang with them as well. The type of fado they sing is unique to the Coimbra area and the finale involved everyone who had been to Coimbra University, getting up to sing, cloaked, their song. It was great! Following the singing I had chocolate mousse, which was good and some ginja and coffee. All in all, it was an excellent evening, with a super atmosphere, lovely staff, pleasant food and great Fado. Recommended.More
