A really nice, relaxed cafe. Staff all friendly and helpful, prices were all reasonable. We only stayed for a couple of drinks. However, would definitely return next time I'm in Lisbon.

We went to this place for a brunch. I took the brunch vital composed of a fruit salad, muesli and yoghurt. My partners ordered eggs. It was ok. Noting exceptionnal. Service was poor and disorganised. I found the table dirty. Apart from that the place and atmosphere are nice.

Very quirky and quaint venue. The menu has plenty of choices - all very suitable for a light lunch. We have mixed tapas which had delicious Sardine pate and the Chèvre salad - gorgeous and well balanced with the pear and nuts.

I came to this cafe after hearing that it's a great place to sit down for coffee and work (they advertise that they have free wifi). While the place was nice, I was kind of disappointed to find out the wifi wasn't functioning and the staff wasn't gonna do anything about it. Otherwise, it's a pretty neat place with good... More

Friendly and attentive service in a huge alcove-type room stocked with a huge collection of titles in various languages as well as Portuguese. Stunning plum tart.

We travelled here to get a gluten free meal, and I had a really good meal. It wasn't easy to find, but it was well worth it. The staff were very helpful too.

This is an artsy breakfast - brunch - lunch place with eggs, fruit, yoghurt, charcuterie, tarts, salads, and homemade cakes. There is a big tea selection which is presented to you in a big tea box. It is the kind of casual cool and funky vibe you'd find in Berlin or Melbourne, and actually if you like Le Loir dans... More

Despite being busy at lunchtime they seemed to find a place for everyone that kept turning up. Big family sized tables can be taken up by couples, solo diners, families...with everyone just getting on with it. It has that kind of relaxed feel which just makes you feel immediately comfortable. They serve terrific fresh food with a decent range of... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
