Met a friend here for an evening drink around 7pm, the café wasn't busy. Helpful staff, prompt service and a nice atmosphere.

Very happy to have gotten the only street side table with views of the beautifully tiled buildings opposite. Great sharing platter of hummus, sardine pate, guacamole and cheese, with fantastic coffee

We were waiting at the door when it opened, and were glad we were as it filled up quickly. Quirky decor, friendly waiters, not to mention the delicious food. They have a great menu, lots of choice, and everything was really good! Baby-friendly too - they have highchairs and toys to entertain kids. Would definitely go back here.

Pois Cafe is a great Lunch cafe in Alfama! It is a locals joint but their food is fresh & delicious. We visited while being tourists in Alfama and really enjoyed our experience. The seating is unconventional but very comfortable.

Really chilled out place, and cool interior with some funky music in the background. My boyfriend and I stopped off here for a game of cards and a hot drink - amazing selection of teas on offer in a little booklet, had a nice pear crumble to go with a macha lemon tea. Only 1 complaint: I asked for a... More

It was actually a bit early for lunch, we had only called in for coffee. But the comfortable quirky surrounding and the great sounding menu persuaded us to stay. I had the light lunch option - but it was plentiful and tasty. My wife had a huge mound of goats cheese salad.

What a great atmosphere & interior, cool staff, nice music and yummy breakfast! We had the vital brunch (fresh fruits, yogurt & cereal) and the eggs (comes with a salad and bread)!

We came accross this cafe while getting lost in Alfama, and spent a good few hours there esting, reading and drinking coffee and beers. They have a small menu of snacks and some meals, cakes and artisan beers, all of which were tasty. Food wasn't particularly breathtaking but the atmosphere and the feel of the place was very cosy and... More

We stumbled upon this quaint little cafe, while strolling in alfama. Well not little actually. It has a pretty quirky setting, very characteristic of the neighbourhood it is in. Very colorful chairs and couch covers, cushions. Pretty large space to move around and very conducive music playing in the background. I dint know that this was a popular cafe untill... More

Fresh, quality ingredients are the reason to visit Pois Café. Food was simple, but effective, yet the service a bit messy.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
