This is a place for big student/ tourist groups where food quality is not the most the most important thing but rather a good and easy going place to drink and have fun. Food is just so-so. The same applies to service. Customer-care? Forget it. Just the monastery ambiance saves the place, bring your camera.

This restaurant is extremely large and very busy. So, we assumed it must be a good place to go and eat. We were disappointed. Our waiter was indifferent , the food average. We ate rice with sea food. It was our first meal out in Lisboa and it was a recommendation. We would not return ,however maybe it is us... More

Only called in for a drink but the place is fantastic. Historically interesting. The brochure we picked up stated it was the oldest and most beautiful beer house in Portugal. Well worth a visit.

Service not good, I felt they did not want us in. Got that confirmed when the meals came very quickly. The dishes were very poor of quality and taste. I think in total we were in the restaurant for 30 minutes. I will not go there again.

The restaurante is situated in a historical building with antique tiles and darwings on the walls. A mixture of food and art. A great place to have succulent steaks and potato chips although there are other plates to choose from like the traditional cod fish dishes. Good servings with friendly waiters. Go with an apetite!

Good touristy setting for an interesting meal, we enjoyed our lunch at the Cervejaria Trindade. We do agree with other reviews -- it is a little touristy -- but then again, we were there for the experience. We had the seafood in rice - well cooked and the flavour was excellent. By the time we left close to 2 pm,... More

Stopped in here after a recommendation from a friend; a unique and enjoyable spot in Lisbon for a beer and a quick bite. Worth a visit for sure. They do full meals but we didn't partake this time

The history of the place drives it. The beer and wine were great. The food was average. Ordered a filet medium and it came nearly uncooked and bleeding into the gravy. The shrimp and garlic was wonderful and the caldo verde soup was very plain. Since it was our first time there, had to ask for help reading the menu.... More

This restaurant has an unusual setting, it is worth going to just to some of Lisbon's history. The food I had was very nice but I did think a little on the expensive side. You are sat almost on top of the next table and when paying the price you are here you feel you would like a bit more... More

We were staying just around the corner at Teatro B&B so we had to try this unusual restaurant/bar even though some of the latest reviews were far from complimentary. We loved it. Decor great, ambience great. Our friendly 'monk' was a delight, his choice of wine excellent, the service he provided was just spot on, the food was really good... More

The Trindade Beer Hall, the oldest and most beautiful beer hall in Portugal, was created in 1836, in the space which had, since the 13th century been occupied the Santissima Trindade Convent. In what used to be the monk's refectory, amongst the 19th century painted tile panels, the exceptionally good beer, and the best dishes of traditional Portuguese Cuisine and the freshest of seafood, you will discover why our costumers feel so well looked after at Trindade.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
