When returning to the train station from our visit to Pena Palace, one of the locals suggested we eat at Saudade. It was a wonderful suggestion. Very interesting cafe with an awesome bakery. Perfect find!

We stumbled upon this cafe on our way down from the train station and popped in for a coffee before exploring the beautiful town . Fabulous friendly service -I was reading about the history of this cafe in the menu and the waitress invited me...More

This is a great little pit stop on the way or from the train station. I went back a couple of times for cake! Really lovely staff and good and varied menu.

Excellent and fresh baked portuguese pastries and scones at reasonable prices. The coffee cart is huge, the coffee of excellent quality (you should try the "Saudade coffee" !), the quelijadas fresh and the service quick. I have had my breakfast everyday at this place !

The food we had was decent, although the cake was delicious. Unable to supplement items in the menu such as tea for coffee. Would go ago though, particular for the cake and yoghurt parfait

Wide choose of coffee drinks and pastry which is a rare case in local restaurants. It seems they specializes on sandwiches, because we didn’t find no main course and for me it was a little disappointing. We ordered three Juliene soups and fried salted bread...More

We kind of got a feeling that we are in the Alice in the wonderland world. Very sweet and cozy place with great food and especially desserts. In such a touristy place as Sintra it’s definitely a diamond. Highly recommended.

It was a small but truly lovely restaurant near Sintra train station, which was decorated with many adorable handmade ornaments, and the whole environment was so cozy and comfortable along with a family-like atmosphere. I just ordered a hot panini and a cup of galão...More

Easily one of the best scones I’ve ever had. Light and fluffy on the inside which is so hard to master. Coffees were great too. Perfect place to relax before or after the train to Lisbon.

We had a very good lunch of different types of tostas at Saudade. We had to wait a little for a table, but it was definitely worth the wait. Friendly staff. The cakes looked so pretty that we just had to taste them as deserts:...More

Hard to say-- they are typically open on Sundays, but Easter in a predominantly Catholic country is another question entirely - Sorry!

Where Cafe Saudade now stands, there used to be housed the historical Queijadas da Mathilde cheesecake factory from 1888 to 1974.These queijadas de Sintra (cheesecakes) were a favorite of King Ferdinand II (who restored the Pena Palace). During the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, the king gave the factory founder a stamp marked Mathilde, to brand the cheesecakes bound for the royal family. The Cafe Saudade was restored and preserved over a year long renovation in 2008 and opened in the summer of 2009. Recycled and regional materials and resources were used to create an environment that authentic. We pride ourselves for this and and for the fact that our team offers the best service they can.The spaces of the old cheesecake factory are today a cultural reference in Sintra's recent historical background. Its preservation allows us a glimpse into the ancient manufacturing process of the typical queijada de Sintra.Wander through the "Saudade Labyrinth" and fall in love with Sintra. Visit our Art Gallery and explore the various rooms with pieces of furniture that we restored with love and care, and in which we have handcrafts for sale. We host literary gatherings, jazz and fado concerts, and other cultural activities.
