A lovely local cafe and lunch spot. Located near the center of Sintra this is a perfect pit stop for explorers. They offer a variety of food and soups for lunch, but in all honesty pop in for a scone. They are massive and i would recommend sharing one! We had the apple and it was like one of you... More

We stopped here for a quick lunch before exploring Sintra. They serve a nice mixture of different sandwiches/toasties, soup, salads etc. The inside has a nice modern but local feel to it, service was attentive and friendly. We had a couple of different toasted sandwiches in local buns which were tasty. My wife enjoyed the fresh lemonade too. We then... More

We visited Saudade twice for breakfast . Lots of options and everything delicious. The apple scone was wonderful and healthy options were available as well. They also sell some ceramics which made for easy shopping. Yuni was our waiter both days... a fun and entertaining gentleman.

We had breakfast here each morning of our stay and really enjoyed the variety and how fresh everything was . Plenty of atmosphere and very busy with locals and tourists . The waiting staff especially Yuni the gorgeous Cuban waiter( he told us to describe him like that) was teased mercilessly by everyone and all worked hard to ensure all... More

We came here for coffee when we arrived for the train station, and then returned for lunch because it was so good! Lovely bowl of soup and then finished off my meal with on of the best apple pies I have ever tried, although it was a hard choice between that and all the other yummy looking pastries!

We had here the best scones ever. Even during our holidays in England never had something like this. Huge scones with butter and jam in a great ambiance. Also the breakfast here was nice

This restaurant is friendly, comfortable, inviting, and surprisingly busy considering it is a cold, rainy February morning. We were attended to by The Cuban Waiter, who immediately brought us fresh squeezed orange juice and frothy lattes. When the plate of breads arrived, I was less enthusiastic, until I tasted them. The nut-covered rolls were tender, the rich custard-filled pastries had... More

My partner and I had breakfast here as part of our accommodation while staying in Sintra. They served us a delicious Portuguese styled breakfast which was lovely. The service was exceptional, our waiter, a Cuban man was so accommodating to us. A real nice guy and totally added to the experience. Recommend to anyone in Sintra

Description
Where Cafe Saudade now stands, there used to be housed the historical Queijadas da Mathilde cheesecake factory from 1888 to 1974.These queijadas de Sintra (cheesecakes) were a favorite of King Ferdinand II (who restored the Pena Palace). During the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, the king gave the factory founder a stamp marked Mathilde, to brand the cheesecakes bound for the royal family. The Cafe Saudade was restored and preserved over a year long renovation in 2008 and opened in the summer of 2009. Recycled and regional materials and resources were used to create an environment that authentic. We pride ourselves for this and and for the fact that our team offers the best service they can.The spaces of the old cheesecake factory are today a cultural reference in Sintra's recent historical background. Its preservation allows us a glimpse into the ancient manufacturing process of the typical queijada de Sintra.Wander through the "Saudade Labyrinth" and fall in love with Sintra. Visit our Art Gallery and explore the various rooms with pieces of furniture that we restored with love and care, and in which we have handcrafts for sale. We host literary gatherings, jazz and fado concerts and other cultural activities.
