We’d booked this restaurant before our holiday for my wife’s birthday based on reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Every course was fabulous and as Londoners, at €120 total including wine, it was great value. Highlights were the violet potato with the sea bass three ways, veal, and chocolate volcano dessert. Service was excellent- the manager even showed us some raw violet potatoes to explain the colour. Tiny moan - we had to ask them to re-make our mains as they arrived literally as they cleared our starters. But they apologised and we had them, freshly made, after a decent break. All in all, this is definitely a restaurant worth booking.

The quality of food was almost perfect. Our only comment was about my rack of lamb, which was quite rare. My complaint was acknowledged with a mild apology. Other dishes were tasty and with imposing appearance.like Foie Gras Truffle, Filet Mignon Rossini and Nest with Egg (really special!). Unfortunately the quality of service was not on the level of food, though the restaurant was not even full. When we had studied the menu and were ready to order, nobody seemed to be interested about us for a good while. Personnel just walked past, but did not stop. We encountered similar problems, when we tried to pay our bill.

Always lovely food, but the service levels are sagging which is so sad really. Lunchtimes are very popular with a great menu, but you do wait and it appears we were forgotten, so we gave up on dessert and coffee and went elsewhere.

This was a fantastic experience where we were welcomed in a very nice way. Fantastic service through our entire stay and what a fantastic food We had their tasting invetion menu that we really can recomend. We had however a couple of elements that is not our favorite and they swapped it with very good alternatives The wine recommended for us, local ones, was a very good match as well as the Madeira for the desert Highly recommended place to eat

Reserved for my parents 44 wedding anniversary. Stated this in the reservation. Was even there two ours before we came to make sure they read it and asked for making them a nice evening. No one sayed anything when we arrived or during our meal. Even the woman I told it two ours before. In general the service was much worse then in other restaurants around. They didn't know who ordered which drink, they didn't know who ordered which food, they didn't clean the table and make us hold the starter plates so they can put the next starter on the table. With the the Amuse-bouche they asked for allergies, I said her I can't eat raw onion. She said there is none. When I stated to eat I've seen the onion in the Amuse-bouche. When she came back I told her. She said she will check with the kitchen - never came back. They poured the wrong sauce on my food and then mine on my father's. I told the waiter, maybe he didn't understand. Didn't tell his boss, didn't say he is sorry. My father ordered dessert in the end. After this the waitress remembered the anniversary of my parents (told us in a very strange and rather offensive way) . She then congratulated them finally and brought some bubbles and a piece of cake which was nice. My fathers dessert looked like Panna Cotta and not Crème Brule (which he ordered) it also it did come with ice cream instead of sponge cake. When I asked about this they broad some sponge cake. We had lots of waitresses and waiters. They all where quiete bad. The main waitress asked me in the end how it was, I told here, she will speak with the staff, she understands. The thing we heard most this evening was that they are sorry. I would rather have a nice evening... The food in general was average, I have no idea why this restaurant is mentioned by Michelin.

Rude time wasters. Doorman told us he would book at table and not to bother booking online, we waited 2 hours and when we returned her said it wasn’t possible to seat us and the manager was too busy to assist. Rude horrible place

I was disappointed. Fish soup was very tasty… and that’s it. In general too heavy meals, everything is fried/ in tempura. There is no balance on your plate - if fish is smoked and fried side dishes - vegetables and gnocchi should be cooked / steamed and not also fried. This was very greasy and heavy. Sof shell crab was marked as premium dish for 22Eur and was also in tempura (not mentioned in menu) so literally destroyed the whole taste, not to mention that the size was for 2 bites. Strange service model with 4-5 waiters introduces chaotic and disturbing atmosphere. I didn’t like it.

Great set-up in quite a unique location - a former warehouse. Food was good and the kitchen recovered smoothly from one problematic ingredient in a dish which had not been mentioned on the menu.

We were so impressed by the staff, the ambience, and if course the food that we rebooked for another night after only the starter. The menu was startling value at just over £50 pp for a meal that in the UK would have been at least double. There are interesting ways to order: full a la carte; a tasting meny which can be paired with wine £70 pp and a Fish or Meat Lovers menu at just over £50. These last two offered some interesting choice of bread and butter/oils, an amuse bouche of fish ceviche, the choice of any starter and dessert from the a la carte and then the main. We both chose the Meat version and be warned - you get all the items mentioned. In our case that was two perfectly cooked pieces of pork belly with wonderfully crisp skin, half a rack of lamb done just right and pink, a beef wellington made with ox cheek, all served with suitable vegetable selection. Each item was first class in taste, presentation and service and the staff were that rare combination of professional but friendly. To be honest this restaurant was our third choice fotlr the evening as our preferred choices did not have a table available. We will try them another time but we're very happy that their non availability led us to here

Lovely table settings but disliked the light/ plug fittings under the table which restricted footings. More than one under our table ? Mentioned to waitress but she just dismissed. Menu found to be extensive, full of exciting dishes but we found only the started lived up to expectations. Quality of produce was ok, sadly had better elsewhere in Funchal. Water and Wine service was extremely slow. In all I think the menu/ meals and food are trying too hard. Too many minuscule mixes that just don’t work and intact spoil a meal. A Gravy bowl per person would be of greater value than shared between the table as it appeared mean and despite mentioning to the waitress again as a comment it was not heeded. Haven’t visited here for a while and I think it’ll be a while before we return - shame !

This restaurant has a Michelin bib but appears to be trying too hard to get a star. The risotto was over salted - admitted by the chef who didn't come out to apologise. Service was slow and not anywhere nearly as friendly as any of the other restaurants in Funchal.

I had one of the best meals of my life here. My husband and I ordered the Gastronomic Tour with a premiere wine pairing. Everything was wonderful. The food was creative and so flavorful. Days later, we are still thinking about each course. The staff were knowledgeable and kind. This is a must-stop in Funchal. In fact, go to Madeira simply to experience this restaurant!

While visiting Madeira, my wife and I decided to try out a highly recommended restaurant. Our experience last night was truly exceptional. We were immediately drawn to the charming ambiance of the venue, and what followed exceeded our expectations. One aspect we particularly appreciated was the unhurried pace of our meal, allowing us to savor each moment. The attentive staff added to our enjoyment with their professionalism and care. As for the cuisine, it was superb. We began with a delightful ceviche, followed by impeccably cooked meat dishes paired flawlessly with an Alentejo red wine, which improved with a bit of aeration. Our dining journey concluded with a delectable dessert accompanied by another glass of the house red. Reflecting on our dining experiences throughout Portugal, including Michelin-starred establishments in Porto, this meal stands out as one of the finest. Regrettably, the only drawback was the disruptive behavior of another guest who seemed unaware of the etiquette regarding service tables. Despite the discomfort caused to nearby diners, the restaurant handled the situation with professionalism.

We had a wonderful meal here tonight for our Anniversary, lovely historic feel to the room but very well considered furniture and decoration to add a luxurious feel to the rustic walls and beams. There are many options to choose from Ala carte to 4 different taster menus. We opted for the full gastronomic tour menu and accompanying wine flight. All excellent, struggle to find fault. Somebody previously commented that it was expensive... Not at all. In Fact in Funchal you can pay upwards of £200 for a taster menu. Even the uk is in often in the hundreds of pounds for a similar level of quality taster menu. This was £80 for 6 courses and bread with dips and coffee with petite fours. Then the premium wine flight was £27...Champagne, 3 glasses of wine and a Madeira to finish. Having eaten at many fine dinning restaurant including Michelin Star we can happily recommend here if looking for a fine dinning evening in Funchal
