Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We are an Irish Family who were Recently on Holiday in Maderia we discovered this unique restaurant. The food was expensive but worth the visit. Best experience was meeting the staff who were simply fantastic especially one of the waitress Saulima. Thanks you very much...Saulima. Rgds John & Mags.More

We booked this for my husband’s birthday which was the following day and could not have chosen a better place to celebrate. We booked a table outside and were by the the doorway of the inside restaurant so had the best of both worlds. We...went for the tasting menu - ‘Gastronomic Tour’ and the wine flight. To say the food was amazing is an understatement. We adore food and this blew us away. Every dish was a taste sensation and we loved every second of our time here. The staff and service are exceptional. This is one of those experiences we will talk about for years to come and we cannot wait to return to this absolutely fabulous restaurant.More

Everything contributes to an excellent dining experience: from the imaginative cuisine to the dining room design and to the very competent service. Their take on the traditional Espada com Banana elevated the authentic dish to a delicacy. The sommelier provided us with both white and...red recommendations that truly suited our palates as well as our food. Service was attentive and helpful.More

It's a shame that this restaurant has been left behind with regards to modern day requirements. It is now a prerequisite that ALL restaurants provide disabled facilities bit certainly NOT at this restaurant to which we have been going to for some years now. By...the time I managed to use a somewhat makeshift facility my food was cold but very nice such a shame, that they have been left in the past.More

This is not an institution my wife & I would chose to return to. They have a certain way of doing things & we felt somewhat patronised but we went with it. The menu is different & food was interesting but not delicious. The wine...by the glass choice was ordinary but the sommelier was good value. Not for us but others will disagree.More

The restaurant is very smart, lovely and casual at the same time with immaculately presented and attending service staff. We choose the extra value al La cart, which proved an excellent choice. Food was perfect, tasty and very well presented, lovely! We added the wine...pairing which was spot on!More

nice place and expectations were high. The service was up to standard. I chose the Gastronomical Tour, thinking that the whole thing would have been thought to tickle the taste buds and the wine package would complement the food. The fish appetizer may sink for...a true fish lover, it was not to my taste at all. The meat was wagyu, which was by no means mindblowing, similar the previous evening's basic meat skewer. The dessert was unimaginative and the main component tasted old. The headwaiter was unable to manage the given direct feedback. Can't recommend, you can find better elsewhere.More

What a shame. We had heard great things about this restaurant and was very excited when our hotel said they had booked us a table. First impressions were very favourable. We had a nice table, the initial service was friendly and responsive, we ordered our...food, the wine was delivered and then it sadly went down hill. Unfortunately, when I am in a restaurant of this standard and I have to keep topping up my own wine glass when staff walking by can clearly see our glasses our empty is not good. It is trying to be 'high end' which it attains with its food and setting, but it is letting itself down with its service. Our dinner took so long, 3 hrs from arriving to finally finishing our main course that we gave up on dessert or coffee. Maybe it was just a bad night for the staff, maybe there were stretched. I understand but sadly with so many restaurants in Funchal, would not go back or feel comfortable recommendingMore

First rate experience from the restaurant setting to the service to the food. We opted for the Gastronomic menu not cheap but as these were the Chefs recommendations we decided as a treat to take our friend as this is certainly one of the best...restaurants in the island. No disappointment here. Every course was lovely created and presented with style, flair and imagination. Top marks for the perfectly executed meal. Staff who were effective and professional. Amazing and worthy of more praise should anyone ask. Recommend this restaurant over all others and give a cheeky hello to the gorgeous head chef who will have no problem with his love life as I suspect most women would marry him instantly if they were in the running Thank you to all who attended us you deserve the very best clientele and the badge of honour award for your culinary/hospitality skillsMore

Well this is a spectacularly good restaurant. The service slow & ponderous for my liking, the tables in the court yard awkward because of sharing with apartment door way access, the staff responsibilities very difficult to fathom.. but my god they serve a meal your...cannot improve on. Not an easy statement to make, but possibly the best cooked meal and served wine I've ever had in my 60 odd years of scoffing food around the world. Truly memorable and special. Well done to all the kitchen staff.. and thank you..More

Great location - full of ambience. Head of staff was attentive, and warm. The wine waitress was quite knowledgeable. The meal was somewhat like being on a roller coaster. We headed down with the 'Couvert' Focaccio which was dense and heavy, and the smallest portion...of garlic butter and oil and balsamic ever seen. This was followed by an upturn with two courses: delicious spiced pulled pork as an amuse bouche, and a starter of Asparagus soup which was well presented and also good, however it went seriously downhill with the mains. We ordered Duck - which was somewhat tough, together with a brown potato terrine, that seemed to have been baked, and then baked again and again. The second main was black scabbard fish in a lime risotto. The portion of fish was two small slices in a soggy batter, a tasteless risotto and the slimmest portion of fresh vegetables ever encountered.More

In the evening there was a mixed crowd with many of the older guests wearing smart casual (shirts, trousers) but many guests were in jeans/cotton trousers and trainers. It's not super formal.
