Wandering through the back streets of Funchal we came across this tea shop on the side of a square. Sat under parasols we ordered specialist tea (loads of choice) and accompanying cake. Everything was perfect, good service and obviously popular with British tourists as somewhere to get a very decent cuppa!

Excellent spot for a break. Quiet but bustling square. Great selection of teas and top class fresh cakes. Recommended.

Lovely afternoon tea, with local cakes, and the most delightful tea. Staff speak fantastically good English and have a lovely gentle sense of humour. Eventually visited three times in a week! Highly recommended.

A very nice little tea room in a quiet square 5 minutes walk from the centre of Funchal. A good place to stop for a break. The cake was nice, and the iced mint tea the best of the four we tried.

Our rep recommended the tea house and we were not disappointed. We sat in the square and enjoyed a leisurely tea and cake. The range and quality of the tea was excellent and the tea and cake deal good value. We would definitely return.

My wife and I stopped here on a quiet Sunday afternoon as there were a number of people sitting outside which is always a good sign. The teas were good and the salads too but the service was slow even though there seemed to be enough staff coming in and out only one person was waiting on the tables. We... More

Had tea here twice. Very attentive service, great tea and cakes and great setting outside on a lovely town square. Could sit here for hours.

Were here by accident having sat in wrong seats but was lovely find with a very wide selection of teas and fabulous pastel de nata. Only downside was some difficulty getting the bill and then actually paying.

We had a cup of tea here with a sandwich. Ginger/mint tea tastes good, as did the white tea. Sandwiches were fine, price is right. Service is friendly and the square has very nice ambience.

Visited this tea room with outside seating twice. Wow what a find. Lovely coffee and their choice of teas was exceptional. The scones were delicious and as for the muffins so light and with a hint of orange mmm! All homemade every day. The menu looked very good and everything was very reasonably priced. Don't miss out!!

Thank Irene C

The Loja do Cha is a tea house located in a beautiful square with yellow painted buildings behind the famous Se Cathedral in the city centre of Funchal. . The Loja do Cha is perfect when looking for a break from traditional cafes in Madeira and is an excellent establishment characterized by charm and class. Also provides the possibility of sitting outside whilst relaxing and watching the passers-by. On store are wide ranges of teas including fruit teas uncommonly found in the island. Coffee is now also available. Serves light snacks such as quiche and sandwiches as well as delicious homemade sponge and fruit cakes, cheesecakes and scones to accompany your tea. Service is very friendly and staff are extremely knowledgeable about the world of tea. A highly recommended locale.
