This is an excellent restaurant if steak is your choice. They are amazing, so tender and perfectly cooked to your choice. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we would highly recommend this restaurant.
We went to La Vaca Negra because we wanted a steak and according to Tripadvisor this is the best steakhouse in Funchal. An extremely bad decision ! Our waiter recommended us to take either the tomahawk or the mega T-bone, because both are superb and...it will be enough for the two of us. We asked for a medium-cooked tomahawk which came almost raw and so chewy we couldn't eat it. We asked the waiter to put it back on the grill a little bit more. It was useless, still very chewy, practically inedible. When the waiter saw what we left on our plates, he didn't even bother to say a word.
To be honest, I don't know how this restaurant is rated so high, I don't remember eating a steak so bad in the last 10 years. Avoid it!More
La Vaca Negra offers casual dinning with big flavours. The steaks were seasoned to perfection and cooked on a wood fire. The big portions come with ensemble of seriously good sauces and the wine was to die for. Friendly staff and eccentric owner all made...the experience wonderful. Would definitely visit again.More
One of the other reviewers said this is the best restaurant for steaks in Funchal. I don’t know if that is correct but, based on the meal I and my companions enjoyed , it may well be the case. Huge portions cooked perfectly as directed...at what seemed fair prices.More
Marco & his wife Andrea run a top quality steak restaurant with care, charm and courtesy.
This is the BEST place in Funchal if you want to eat carefully sourced well hung steaks cooked on the open fire grill.
These range from sirloin, ribeye, fillet,...tomahawk etc. and are served with potato wedges sprinkled with herbs and three sauces.
Portions are HUGE and flavour is superb.
There is a good wine list at very fair prices and the option to dine inside or on the outdoor terrace.
Marco has a good sense of humour and is always concerned to make sure that his customers old and new have a first class experience.
This is a restaurant which does everything with INTEGRITY and is strongly recommended.
You will certainly never leave hungry !!!More
Yes, the meat is great, the service the same but the prices are inflated to the end. Gold that is surrounded by cutlery is not worth that much. All in all, fish and seafood are eaten in Madeira and not meat, at least that's what...I think. You don’t get anything special for that money.More
An absolutely lovely meal with great service and atmosphere. We went on the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed!
A small restaurant with big flavours. For starters we had the Chorizo and the Tomato and Mozzarella salad - tasted great and good portions....For the main we both had ribeye steak. Was soo tasty and such a large steak - especially for the price. All the staff were welcoming and attentive and we had a lovely evening. Will return next time we are in Funchal.
Booking advisable as it was full and a lot of people turning up couldn’t get a table.More
