Great food and location

Had a great dinner with friends. I had the folhado de pato which is a fantastic tasting dish. It was cooked perfectly. My friends also enjoyed their respective dishes. We had the grilled mushroom appetizer which was also wonderful. The location is very nice. Near city center. The interior is very romantic and subdued. Service was great with the server coping with our very limited Portuguese language skills. Highly recommended!

Great food and friendly staff!

My daughter was visiting me and we arrived here for an early dinner. We sat inside amongst a quaint interior. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu selections. My daughter got the duck and rice dish which she absolutely loved. I got a fish option which was very good.i highly recommend this restaurant!

Cozy and intimate

We had a wonderful, memorable lunch here. Located just steps from our Hotel Porto Nova, we luckily arrived early before it filled up with locals. The resto oozes with Portuguese charm and ambiance. I had the deliciousness of the boneless chix with yogurt sauce. My wife enjoyed her shrimp curry rice. With water and meringue pie, the total was only 31E for two.

Don't pick the prawn curry

This restaurant's location is pretty great, a little off one of the big main streets, which makes it much quieter. Both my parents had cod with bread (bacalhau com broa) and they really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I opted for the prawn curry (caril de gambas). Big mistake. The curry sauce was pretty bad, tasted off. Very mild curry flavor. And the prawns still had the big vein in, no care in their preparation whatsoever. Overall, I would not recommend this place because I cannot tell if the food is good and I just picked their bad dish, or if my parents were the lucky ones and the rest of the food is bad, average at best. Either way, I definitely think they should take the prawn curry off the menu and stick to the dishes they can actually prepare.

Ok, but nothing special

Dinner was ok, but we won’t be back. With all the fabulous restaurants in Braga, there are many better options than Colher d'Pau Taberna. Service was adequate. I had the shrimp in puff pastry and my husband had the fried cod and potatoes. Both were ok, but not very flavorful. Average meal.

They forgot everything

Basically we got into this restaurant with high expectations given the so many positive outstandings. The waiters are super distracted and actually forgot everything that we ordered. We needed to keep on asking them for missed orders. Wont go again for sure

Old Braga

Terrific old school Portuguese, with some interesting dishes we have never had before. Ambiance was uber romantic. Lovely little side street far enough away from the hustle, but still walking distance. Excellent Douro wine selections, at reasonable prices. Maybe 10 tables inside, in a 16th century stonewalled building.

Heathen food. We ordered food and it came after a few minutes and this already made us think strange. Result: we had to go to a fast food to have dinner

Brilliant place.

A really lovely place. Welcoming and comfortable with a great buzz. The bacalhau a Braga was sublime. Decent prices and very generous portions. Excellent service. Will be back for sure.

We had lunch here with the group of 13,everybody was happy with their food. The best was octopus (main course), very tender! Grilled fish was also tasty. Our favourite dessert was chocolate cake and lemon cake!

Wins the Wooden Spoon

Visited whilst in Braga following TA advice, but our experience was not as good as others have considered on their reviews. The location and venue is cosy enough including the small outside seating area, but from there on our experience was pretty average and we’d consider this more of a tourist style restaurant rather than gourmet. We may have just been unlucky with our choices but we felt the execution of both starters and mains were not great, basically over cooked. This included the roasted salt cod and the octopus. Service was also less than welcoming and rushed which didn’t help to improve matters. We may have just had an unlucky night but some of our comments are echoed within other reviews even by those who gave 4 or more stars so we think there is an underlying issue. This isn’t a ‘hidden gem’ but very much in the tourist area and although not overly expensive, still higher than far more appealing and exciting dining options we experienced elsewhere in Braga. We can only recommend potential diners do their research on other options or keep their fingers crossed if they chose this place.

Very tasty local food

Visited this evening and enjoyed a delicious meal. Cod fish main and Arroz de Pato main meals were delicious. Highly recommended for dinner in Braga.
