My partner and I visited Velhos tempos while we stayed in Braga and we did not get disappointed! It was simply delicious! Velhos Tempos is decorated in an old fashioned style which makes it very comfortable and cosy. As a starter there is corn bread (typical for the north of Portugal) and olives which are very yummy! Afterwards we had Octopus and Bacalhau which were giant portions, a bottle of red vinho verde (I personally liked it a lot but it is young vine and is a bit bitter - if you do not like bitter go for the white vinho Verde, which is refreshing and sweet, both are typical for the northern region of Portugal). Mousse au Chocolat, a kind of creme brulé and to coffee complemented our dinner. Besides the amazing tastes of the dinner the bill was also very reasonable with a total of 38€!!! We will certainly return, highly recommended!

Onlt 1 Dinner in Braga!

We only had 1 night in Braga on the 11th Oct. The Taberna opens at 7:30 pm sharp, and I recommend lining up for a table at about 7:15 pm. The menu is small but also varied with a variety of paixe and carne. Daily soup is delicioso and there is a variety of starters for all to choose from. Roast leg of black pig was really delicious. Other dishes include duck rice and cod, etc. The dessert menu is really good! This is like home style Portuguese cooking and the family that runs this lovely little restaurant is quiet, friendly, and attentive. Wine list offers good branco and tinto from all regions. I'll go back when I am back jn Portugal.

I ate dinner at Velhos Tempos one night in mid-April and am happy to recommend this cozy old restaurant. I began with a very pleasant salad and then had a delicious veal chop served with potatoes and spinach. I also appreciated the attentive and friendly service and generous pour on the glasses of wine.

We enjoyed a really nice experience at Velhos Tempos. The starter with camaroes was really tasteful. After that we ordered 1/2 ration of "Velhos Tempos cod" and 1/2 ration steak of vitela. The dessert of docinho (puddin with pumpkin jam) is something as incredible as different. The caneca of D'Ouro wine tastes like heaven. The waiter was absolutely careful and polite. He managed pretty well the queue. You won't regret it to pay a visit to this restaurant.

The BEST!!!

This is the BEST restaurant in Braga. The building is picturesque and quaint. The service was wonderful. The food was traditional Portuguese, delicious and inexpensive. I am going back there later this week. Only thing- they only take euros- no credit cards. Well worth the visit!!!!!

Don’t visit while on business - don’t accept Visa card

They don’t accept credit cards that are not from Portugal. Food is ok but expensive. They don’t speak English or Spanish and service is poor at best. This day and age to face having to find cash at 11:30PM is unheard of. It’s also poor business practice to have customers go through this experience because the owners are short sided. Stay away from this and places like this, it’s the only way to improve overall service for all.

Fantastic Lunch!

We had an amazing lunch here today. The atmosphere, food and service were all outstanding. We enjoyed a beautiful authentic three course meal in a beautiful setting. Food was both excellent quality and value. It was all freshly made, well presented and tasted delicious.

First great dinner in Portugal

We've been here in summer, it was our first day in Portugal and I must say that our holiday couldn't start better. Great fish and tiny cute location, with a very kind waiter. In this place we learnt the first rule of this country: every dish in really, really BIG. Very nice experience!

Nice local rustic food served in a charming stone and wood tavern. Waiter suggested some local specialties and was right about everything. Wonderful. Inexpensive and high quality too.

We have wait quite a bit to get in . The employee didn't actually look very helpful nor happy with all honesty. We didn't felt welcomed as several other places in Portugal
