Traveling alone can suck sometimes. Over a couple of weeks you start to crave human interaction, if only as a fly on the wall while you grab a bite to eat. Casa de Pasto is alive and active, full of local people enjoying a night...out which is great to be a small part of.
The service was good even though English was a struggle and my Portuguese was non-existent. It always pays to remember you are a guest in someone else’s country so them speaking your language is a luxury you should not assume.
My waiter recommended the perfect number of tapas when he dropped off my bread and I followed his lead. I had the local favorite, a bed of fries with two perfectly cooked fried eggs (yolks runny) covered in Iberian ham and mayo. It was devine. This was followed with the selection of fried seafood, all different from my home in New Zealand but also familiar. Perfectly cooked they whisked you away to memories seaside. This was followed with the don, a favorite local dessert and a short black (good coffee).
If you are looking for a vibrant place, full of locals enjoying themselves and beautiful local tapas you should come down to Casa de Pasto. It will be worth your while.More
We had a smashing, interesting lunch here based on a review found in lonely planet.
We ate 4 tapas from the changing monthly menu and 1 a la carte dish. We particularly enjoyed the alheira with turnip sprouts, tomato barley risotto and rare beef with...capers and a vinaigrette. We asked what turnip sprouts are and the manager went to great lengths to assist us with what they are. (It transpires they are the leafy turnip tops eaten in a similar fashion to spinach).
Very reasonably priced, good wine, interesting venue and helpful informative staff.More
Glad to have found this gem during the Braga Romana festival. Their modern takes on classic Portuguese and Spanish dishes are great, but where they really shine are the desserts. Both the goat cheese ice cream with pumpkin sauce and the white chocolate parfait were...to die for. Their white sangria was also easily the best I ever drank.More
We had a great evening here. Tapas is the perfect food in my opinion, lots of different plates and tastes. We allowed the waiter to select for us and he brought a wide selection of choices that catered to everyone’s tastes and dietary requirements. He...did bring rather too many dishes so to avoid being over served I would suggest you give him a number of dishes to serve for your group.
The waiter was very knowledgeable on local wines and he made two great choices - a red and a White for our group.
Compared to most of the restaurants we ate in during our trip to Braga this was the most expensive. But we all enjoyed the food and had a great evening - and it was still a lot cheaper than it would have been in the UKMore
I think it is a fusioned Portugese restaurants, the tapas are excellent in taste, quality and presentation. I spent 4 days in Braga and this top all the restaurants I have tried! Pity that one service needs improvement, the guy was great but the other...lady was perhaps not in the best mood.More
