Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Based on the receptionist's recommendation, I had dinner right by the Douro River at around 8:45 p.m. - 9:05 p.m. It was supposed to be light.
Fish, meat, salad and a very large selection of wines.
At that time, there were seats available inside and outside, and I was fortunately able to sit inside in December.
From the beginning, I didn't have a good feeling about myself as an individual guest. In addition, the waiter's English was "so-so".
The local Douro white wine, recommended by the waiter, was very good. As was the salmon salad (smoked) with mozzarella and flaked almonds. The price was completely reasonable (€4/€14.50).
To finish, an espresso for €2 was also solid, €20.50 in total. Despite not being completely satisfied, it was worth €23 to me and I would definitely recommend the restaurant, but as a solo traveler, "only" to a limited extent.

We walked in about 1930 with no reservation and were seated in quiet room with a view of the river. Had it been earlier and warmer, the tables outside were spectacular. We shared the cataplata for two. Think bouillabaisse in a light amazing red sauce served with white rice and potatoes to add at your pleasure. So generous that we could not finish it all. Service was excellent. €22 bottle of red. Check was 1/3 Los Angeles pricing. Highly recommend. We’re all the tables on a Sunday filled with tourists? Of course, but we were the only English speakers in the room.

This is one of the many restaurants looking over the Douro river in the popular Ribeira tourist area. I had very nice rice dish with monk fish and prawns and my husband had grilled lamp chops with vegetables . We shared a typical portuguese desert which was accompanied by a glass of port wine. The bill came to 46 euros, which we thought was good value for money in this popular tourist restaurant. The food was very good and despite previous criticism in some reviews, we found the service quick, efficient and courteous in a very busy restaurant.

I arrived at 20:45 and got served at 22:00.
The food was good quality and was well prepared, but I don't know if it was hunger speaking.... Plus the table attending was also really slow. During my wanting a couple of two arrived at 21:50 surely they got served at 23. In a restaurant with these prices I find it absurd this type of wait, it takes the way the enjoyment of the food that should have arrived 1h earlier. Hope it was an exceptional day.

If you're in a hurry, don't even think about it.
It took us more than 3 hours to eat a menu, having to wait 50 minutes between dishes.
The food was pretty good, but the service spoils the whole experience.
The price it has does not correspond at all to the service they provide.

The restaurant could be good. Basic service, basic service and basic food…
At 10:30 pm there is no more background music… and we are still eating…
Undercooked and tasteless cod…
We asked if it was possible to have ambient music and the manager with a wrinkled nose put the music on instead. We still ordered one on the table, but it was better to leave first. Moelleux au chocolat with a scoop of strawberry... I had never seen it... maybe they no longer serve vanilla... after having more information, the workers were only paid until 10:30 pm... and they work 1 hour for free for us...
Alé…. Good year….

Restaurant to avoid! The two of us took “Tripas a moda do Porto”, 5 minutes later they brought back the two dishes with a strong smell of curry. I ask the waiter if there is curry? ANSWER the cook doesn’t know! But I'm going to do it again without curry, 50 minutes later, still nothing. I decide to cancel and pay for what we consumed. Another very unpleasant waiter came to tell me that the order was done and that I should have said that I don't like curry. I told him that on the menu it was not noted that this dish had curry (I had never seen or heard of curry in Tripas a moda do Porto).
The advice I give them is to change the name of the dish to “Tripas mode New Delhi”

Pleasantly surprised to be accepted at 10:20 p.m., as requested we ordered our dishes before 10:30 p.m. that’s when the fun stops! Our dishes are brought to us, making it clear that we are disturbing... at the end of our dish we are asked if we would like a dessert, we kindly ask if it is not too late and we are told no but be quick... we order some suite and 5 minutes later they literally threw the plates on the table. To summarize, the dishes are quite good but the service is terrible. To stay in the same dynamic we won't say goodbye to you!
So if you can, move on because the service is so terrible that it will harm your experience!

We ate here and enjoyed it so much that we came back for a second time for our wedding anniversary.
The first time, I had a delicious seafood risotto with monkfish and prawns and my wife had the bacalhau coated in tomato breadcrumbs accompanied by a delicious Douro red wine. We finished the evening with a moist almond cake along with a glass of tawny port.
On the second evening, I had golden bream and my wife had veal medallions. Again, a lovely bottle of Douro red led into the almond cake and port. The head waiter brought the cake with candles a lovely message and two complimentary glasses of local bubbly.
The view from the outside seating over the river wall and across to Vila Nova de Gaia was spectacular.
The only irritation was being squeezed between two sets of selfish, chain-smoking couples!

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the waitress was friendly, smiley and very helpful. We ordered bread and olive oil for a starter to share but the olive oil was bitter and rather unpleasant. We were astonished that our main course arrived 30 seconds later. I ordered cod with greens and potatoes but the fish was barely warm and full of bones and all very bland. I sent it back and it was microwaved rather than replaced. My wife ordered lamb chops but they arrived lukewarm. The wine was inexpensive but pleasant.

Unfortunately we ended up in a tourist place, we knew it but it was late and everything was full everywhere. The place is not very big but very nice and in a nice location. The staff was not very friendly, I understand the tiredness and the rush, but it cannot justify the attitude. The wait was very long, both to sit down and to eat, however it was actually full of people so it's understandable. I had a salmon salad which wasn't bad, the children had meat with potatoes and salad. Consistent price.

After a morning of visiting the old town we spotted a free table outside the restaurant along the quayside. Fantastic view over the river while we waited for service. There was only one waiter and he was run off his feet so it took a while for the order to be taken, drinks and nibbles to arrive.
The food was excellent, dorade perfectly cooked and a speciality cod dish (shredder with potato). Two glasses of excellent Douro wines.
The next day we had an awful meal across the river and regret not having come back here.

Excellent place and atmosphere. Tasty and beautifully served food. .as an appetizer were oysters, which were supplemented with a very suitable side dish. The fish soup was served with fruits and interestingly. The seafood salad was completely different than expected, but delicious! The octopus was excellent, only the chard side dish was bland and a bit tasteless. White wine, local recommended. The choice was successful.

My food was good
My wife’s was not that great
Badly shucked oysters and a bizarre breaded prawn in a prawn cocktail! It looked awful and apparently tasted the same!
Service was poor I had to go several times to remind them of collect oil or condiments. The worst was that after we paid we left and were accosted in the street by a threatening waiter claiming that we had fled without paying- an illustration of how disconnected the service was!
Never again!

Lunch Sunday lunch. Only restaurant in the area that agreed to pick us up at 6 people at 2pm. Very hearty and excellent dishes. Rice has monkfish and shrimp a treat! Serves good and beautiful presentation. Prices a little high for Porto but very decent considering the quality quantity. I'll go back.
