Staff very willing to speak English and help,us with the menu. The food was excellent and very plentiful. Traditional tiled surroundings and a long bar full of photos and quirky antiques as well as food. Had two great evenings here.

We ate here twice and really enjoyed both meals, but the wine was exceptional, we had a Douro red 2011, which was one of the best years on record. The staff were exrtremely pleasant but one waitress, Katarina, was delightful. She spoke very good English and was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine. A great asset to the restaurant.... One of the best restaurants I had the luck to visit in town. Very well known and highly rated, you should make a reservation. The food is extremely good and the staff is very nice and helpful.

"Cozinha do Manel" has recovered a very important manager and it has returned to its "historic" maximum quality and service! Very much appreciated by all that pay a visit. Its quality from starters, to main course and dessert quality is top level! Everything is cooked or baked in home cooking style and truly fabulous and tasty! Highly recommend it to... More

After all the good reviews, we decided to give the restaurant a try, but we got really disappointed. Since my grandparents were Portuguese, I do know how Portuguese food tastes, and that was the worst octopus rice I've ever eaten. Besides, the food was not enough and the prices were, for Portugal, above the average.

The menu is small but the food is amazing. You can eat both meat or fish. You will not be disappointed. "Vitela or Rojões" or "Polvo" is mandatory. Desserts are heavenly.

Expensive place but a good one to taste very good Portuguese food. You should try the "Vitela assada" for meal and "Rabanada" for the dessert.

"Cozinha do Manel" is a cozy traditional portuguese restaurant with fantastic food! Starting with its bread and the dark "brôa de Avintes" (it almost seems like chocolate), smoked ham (presunto) or other starters ("pataniscas", "croquetes", etc), moving on to main course such as "Tripas à moda do Porto", or roasted baby goat or veal; codfish, Octopus or Hake fillets, the... This is a family owned restaurant located next to the Eurostars Heroismo hotel in Porto. They offer a good selection of local dishes including fish and meat. The service is great, friendly and helpful. It's a small restaurant so expect that your table will be located close to other patrons in the restaurant. Price is reasonable.

We have visited and latterly lived in Portugal for many years and would definitely add the meal we ate in this restaurant to our top five of worst ever dining experiences. Waiters were surly and made no attempt to engage by explaining items on menu etc even though we spoke in passable Portuguese. Although we were the first customers we... More
