We had read reviews of Cafeina and the restaurant just appealed to us. The ambiance and decor were relaxed and warm, there was plenty of room between tables, and the stiff white table linen and table settings were very appealing. They also played good jazz at exactly the right sound level. At 7.45 we were virtually the only ones there, by 9 it was packed. I had the fish soup with puff pastry followed by the Tournedos Rossini and a mouth watering pear tart. Everything was flavourful and well cooked. The menu isn’t extensive, but there is certainly enough choice and the wines are acceptably priced. Service was great and ver well paced. And we greatly appreciated the birthday gestures.

We have been in Portugal for 2 weeks and this was our best meal by far. Our server, Wesley was perfect in every recommendation from the wine to the starter to the main course. He made us feel like he was welcoming us into his own home. The Maitre D’ was equally pleasant and accommodating. We had 2 appetizers, salmon and scallops and they were outstanding. My beef tenderloin with mustard sauce was so tender and delicious. It is a 25 minute Uber drive from the city center but we’ll worth the drive to this upscale Porto neighborhood. If you want to eat with more of a local crowd and receive outstanding service and food this is your place.

The place was recommended from the hotel, it was a Friday night and we managed to get in but was requested to vacate the table by 9:3-, so we arrived at 7:3p, the first ones there. The interior is nice and relaxing, we were shown to the table and had pre-dinner drinks, the food menu is good and the server excellent with his advice. The bread is served with two butter and a delicious pâté. We had the smoked salmon to share & then I had the fish soup, peppered steak & the mandarin tart, my wife had the scallops & the beef wellington. All were great, the sever helped with the wine selection also which was great. They had initially asked for the table back @ 9:30, but when the time approached they told us that I was ok to stay and the managed the waiting guests. All in all an amazing experience and would highly recommend it.

I stumbled on Cafeína by walking by. I was intrigued and the reviews were mostly great. We had a reservation for 7:30 (19h30) and were told they needed the table back by 9:30 (21h30). Not a problem. The atmosphere is quite nice so we were excited. Unfortunately, the food was not great.
We ordered the fish soup, beef Wellington and the tiger prawns. Before we had taken a bite of food, except for the bread, two managers came by to ask if everything was ok. At that point, it was.
But it wasn’t when we took a few bites. Both the soup and the beef had undercooked puff pastry. The beef Wellington is described on the menu as "Beef Fillet, Mushrooms Duxelle, Foie Gras in Puff Pastry with Roasted Vegetables" That was not what we got. We got inconsistently cooked pieces of meat wrapped in undercooked puff pastry. The mushroom duxelles and foie gras were nowhere to be found. And while one small roasted onion cut in half and two tiny bok choy leaves technically constitutes a serving of roasted vegetables, it’s not really a serving. Two of the beef Wellingtons were bloody red in the middle and the other was well done. The person who go the tiger prawns was very happy with their meal.
As they got busy, service slowed. After being told we had to vacate the table at 9:30-9:45, We weren’t able to flag down our waiter for the bill until after 10:00p (22h00) so I don’t understand why they told us we needed to leave. It just added anxiety to the evening.
To be fair, we didn’t complain and did not give them the opportunity for fix things.

Hello, we just ate at Cafeina restaurant and I wanted to share my thoughts with you. We are a couple
We have just arrived, we sit down and the waitress brings us 4 pieces of bread, 5 or 6 olives and a piece of goat's cheese and a piece of normal butter.
We understood the day before while eating in another restaurant in Porto that this type of service was chargeable and without asking us anything. So we tell the waitress that we don't want it. She tells us that the bread is very warm with a sad look. We therefore accept the bread and butter so as not to upset her or disappoint her, knowing very well that it will cost us €7.
Afterwards, she offers us a bottle of water. We decline his offer and instead ask him for 2 glasses of white wine (15 cl as indicated on the menu).
She comes back 5 minutes later, uncorking a bottle of water in front of us. We tell him again that we don't want water. So, she grabs the bottle of white wine and serves us two glasses with very small portions.
I tell my wife that it looks more like 5 cl portions instead of 15 cl as indicated on the menu. I don't say anything to the waitress so as not to start arguments and upset my wife. Subsequently, 3 people arrive at the next table. They order 1 glass of red wine and confirms what I thought. Their glass was more than twice as full as our glasses. Luckily for us we accepted the bread, butter and 6 olives for €7. We decide not to have dessert to leave as quickly as possible. Indeed, we are very disappointed and we find all this unfair. As I told my wife, I check the bill being firmly convinced that the waitress will want to count the water for us. Alas, I was right to be wary. She actually counted the water in the bill. I tell the waitress that we haven't consumed any water and I ask her to do it again. She accepts.
On the other hand, on the receipt for the bill, they offer to leave a tip of 5% and then again, on the credit card machine, they offer to leave a tip of your choice of 5%, 10% or 15 %. Haha

First visit to Porto and a great start to our lovely trip. We were 5 people (staying at the Vila Foz for a special birthday celebration). The restaurant is beautiful with its decor and soft lighting. We all had a great meal though the first course was very slow in coming out to be served. The waiter explained that the chef wasn’t happy with the lobster soup which was fine as always pleased when the staff come out to explain any delays and it was absolutely delicious when it did eventually come out. We are a very foodie family and the restaurant was such a great start to our holiday.

This restaurant is exactly what I expect when I see a Michelin rating. I honestly am starting to prefer it more than Michelin star restaurants.
Right in the beginning the entree was a statement, while the bread was not life changing, I found the olive Oil they offered to be of incredible quality, three varieties of butters that were incredibly tasty.
When it was time to order, they instantly had me impressed by the fact that their relatively complex menu had not a single dish over 30€.
We were three people, we ordered the Cod, the Beef Wellington and the Pepper Steak.
For a starter we shared a beef carpaccio.
The beef carpaccio came in amazing, it was incredibly fresh with an amazing texture, great seasoning and oh god that special mayonnaise was amazing.
When it was time for mains, all dishes arrived at the same time. All had an amazing visual. The cod was one of the best I’ve eaten in Portugal, and I have tried a lot… incredibly tender and delicious, accompanied by and amazing potato cheese egg trio that fit perfectly.
The beef wellington was a bit of an experimental recipe, so not to be compared with the traditional one. However it impressed, flaky and crunchy but yet so tender. And the pepper steak was a classic.
It was just as I expected it, perfectly cooked and seared, with that perfect taste.
For the star of the show, we shared three desserts, the crepe flambéed, the fruit platter and the house classic chocolate cake.
Oh, my, word. The fruit was not anything special, but good. The crepes on the other hand were, creamy, flaky and delicious.
What really nailed it however was the cake. That soft cake with a salty chocolate topping together with the homemade ice cream was one of the best things I’ve had in my life.
Portion sizes were perfec, and the service spectacular. And with wine, we paid 180€ for 3 persons.
I can only recommend this restaurant.

This was our third visit.
We were disappointed overall.
We waited for the aperitif served to us, despite two reminders from us, at the same time as the starter.
The quality of the food was well present, the Wellington beef was well cooked and very good.
On the other hand, 220 euros to four, without bottle of wine is completely excessive!
To summarize, service not up to standard, quality of dishes ok but addition too expensive.
Too bad because we liked this address.

Had the scallops and carpaccio for starters. Scallops were delectable however i think it is reasonable to expect an even number. Carpaccio was a big portion, however it could have done with more pickle onion or greens and was lacking parmesan. The server suggested Douro white wine, which was fantastic and light. The service was quick and attentive. My mustard steak was one of the best iv ever had. Melts in your mouth, with a succulent gratin. The tiger prawn was alright. The chocolate cake, was more like a ganache. Again, for a restaurant of this caliber and formal setting I would opt for something easier to eat than stick to the teeth. Reservations r preferred in this joint. It is 6 mins from Praia da luz, which is nice to see the sunset and have a drink before dinner at Cafeina. Total bill for 2 incldg bottle of wine and tip was €144.

We came here last week for dinner on a week day night. The service was amazing. I would recommend everyone trust their recommendation of dishes. We had tiger prawn linguini and it was one of my favorite in Porto. Everything about this dish was perfect and they served it into plates because my partner and me were sharing our entrees. Beef Wellington was great as well (yes, they served it with separate plates).

Definitely Michelin recommended- we were asked if we wanted bread as a cover- amazing goats butter, intense flavour from the pate.
We skipped starters as it was a very late lunch service and felt like private dining- lovely polite & friendly staff.
I really enjoyed the large fillet of sea bass- so juicy- which was served with effectively a rice seaweed risotto- felt like I was walking on the beach!
Exceptional pudding served with scrumptious Port- would easily choose everything from the menu. Fantastic and very creamy Gorgonzola ice- cream with a hint of salt.

6 of us went tonight, 2 are gluten and lactose intolerant, which has been tricky in Porto, but not in Cafeina.
From start to finish everything was wonderful.
Georges (the Maitre D) was simply world class, calm, professional and so friendly and welcoming.
We had the absolute privilege of being served by Andre on his first night (in Cafeina - not first night in the group) and he was without doubt the best waiter we have ever experienced anywhere. Enthusiastic, fun, interesting, he absolutely made our evening.

Cafeina is a very comfortable and intimate restaurant offering a Continental style menu including foie gras and beef Wellington. Their signature seafood soup in puff pastry is wonderful, as is the fresh bread with goat milk butter and pate. Although the menu is high end, the atmosphere is convivial and relaxed. It appears to be a local favorite. Fine service, and excellent and affordable wine and port, too.
