Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Colin Robb's true colours seem to be coming out as he nears the end of his time at The Galley. I have to respond to his lies, as I was the individual who got the terrible curry and not my sister, who Colin has fabricated...total inaccuracies about in his response to GrahamR's review. I did not clean my plate, I left the majority of the curry. I should have put it straight back, instead of trying to ignore the issue and not spoil the experience for those I was with. The restaurant was far from full, so the quiet discussion we had with the waitress when she asked at the end of the meal if everything was OK had no impact on other customers. We could've said a lot more actually, why some chips were stone cold and others hot, why was there a skin on the fish curry, why was everything tasteless apart from the strong burnt taste that my curry had. We were extremely tolerant of the poor experience and I mean service too. We certainly did not have a go at the waitress, who was very helpful. We never asked to speak to the chef. Indeed, the waitress agreed the curry was burnt and when she came back from speaking to the chef, advised he had only heated it up, so it was not his fault it was burnt. I can't comment on the waitress getting sympathy when we left, but can see no reason she needed this. I can only assume this is as accurate as the rest of Colin's response along with the lies about my sister only putting bad reviews on TA. I accept it must be hard in the hospitality business, and it was my idea to come back to the Galley after our visit 3 weeks ago. That experience was completely different, although we did agree not to have dessert as the kitchen staff did want to finish. I completely disagree I was bullying staff to get a free meal. I would not have wanted that particular meal even if it had been free, so feel totally justified not wanting to pay for it. Maybe 10 years has been too long for you and bitterness has set in, but I don't think customers should have to put up with unsatisfactory produce. The review was never intended to tarnish your reputation, you seem more than capable of doing that for yourself with your response. Thankfully not all establishments are like this and we have had some tremendous experiences from professional venues who know how to do it and have submitted reviews acknowledging this.More

Beautiful sharing platter seafood starter and monkfish & prawn curry main course. Generous portions and very tasty. Generous monkfish pieces and large juicy prawns in the curry with just the right amount of a kick.
Friendly relaxed atmosphere with great views of the harbour.
We...moved to the area three years ago and haven’t had much luck with finding great food when dining out, and a real lack of seafood and fish. Especially disappointing given the abundance of fresh fish and seafood caught and sold locally.
Such a shame to hear you are closing in a week’s time and we so wished we had found you earlier as we would have happily become regulars.
Thank you for a lovely dining experience and we wish you well with your future plans.More

Love the galley. Had some lovely meals here. Lunch today was not one. Starter was poor. Dry salmon pate. Prawns so over cooked they bounced. Fish tasteless. Chips half cooked half not. And cold! Son had the special of fish fillets. So over cooked they...crumbled when you attempted to cut them. Really disappointing. Oh and not great seeing chef outside puffing away.More

We as a family of 4 all had a high tea at the Galley. Absolutely fantastic. Yes it was a little more expensive than some of the other places in the area but the size of portions and the quality of the food was well...worth it. Staff were great, no complaints. I will definitely be returning for food.More

I really enjoy seafood and this is the best seafood linguine I’ve ever tasted. Two others in the party had other dishes and both thoroughly enjoyed them. Good service, great food and reasonable price all created a fantastic experience. Very well done👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

What a crackin place! Was delighted to find the galley on a wee day trip today. Some of the freshest seafood and best Cullen skink I’ve ever had. Myself and my friend ordered a sharing platter which went down a treat. The coconut prawns, scallops...and calamari were particularly memorable…along with the tomato bread. Will definitely be back. Thank youMore

Went for a supposed romantic meal . Nicely decorated place , average atmosphere, but only three tables occupied. The Cullen skink starter was nothing special . One was all potato and the other had a little bit of fish in it . The flavour wasn’t...bad but I’ve had better. The duo of fish was full of lemon flavouring and was quite poor in taste . The Mediterranean fish stew was awful , It contained very little actual fish and the scallops were definitely absent There was an aftertaste that just wasn’t right. Initially I thought it was from the mussel shells . Asked the waiter to ask the Chef what the aftertaste was . He came back and said the chef says that the fish is all fresh . That wasn’t what I’d asked and seemed to be somewhat defensive. I wasn’t criticising his work or questioning the quality of the fish , merely asking what the taste was . As the chef couldn’t be bothered to come out to explain , and I had no intention of having a go at the young waiter , we left . Not somewhere that I’d return to or recommend to anyone.More
