Not far from Monastiraki metro station, this wonderful taverna is all you need in Athens to feel at home and to eat "traditional". The youth of Athens seem to hang out on this street too! I ordered some vegetarian mezes and a small bottle of ouzo, spent around three hours slowly enjoying the great food and the wonderful Greek music... More

Psirri is within easy walking distance of Plaka and Monastiraki. The streets are lined with cafes, bars and restaurants. Taverna Tou Psirri is in a great location, away from the traffic. Food is not only very good but also reasonably priced, and service is impeccable.

Authentic Greek with daily changing local dishes. Loved the no-nonsense and great food. Recommend the Feta from the oven.

We were introduced to this old established restaurant by a very dear friend many many years ago and still each time we come to Athens this is a must go to place. We truly love this restaurant for its never bowing to trends. It remains as it was all those years ago. You mainly find locals eating here in groups... More

I came to this place after checking tripadvisor and I was not disappointed. The Greek Salad was plenty for two people, plates and appetizers are not small at all, I recommend you come with an appetite. The service was also good, they have a garden in de backyard to enjoy your meal.

Home cooking in old Athens at it's best! Greek Salad large enough for two, fried zucchini, veal steak for me & baked chicken with potatoes for my wife. We couldn't finish it all, and the bill just under 30€ before the tip! Service was great and everything was delicious...

Our taxi driver recommended this place and were we ever glad! Very quiet, very authentic. The food came quickly and was more than we could eat - which was shocking considering how much it cost. Delicious, authentic, fresh, and inexpensive. If you're looking for a place where the locals eat, what more could you ask for?

You can definitely not go wrong eating at this place. We were there for lunch one day and decided to go back again the next. The food is prepared in big trays and the customer can either pick right there or order from their menu. We tried both and considered the food simply fantastic. We tried the Paidakia (Lamb Chop,... Description
The Taverna of Psirri, is a traditional greek restaurant, held by a family originated from Paros Island. Established in 1994, by the father of the family, and today run by the two brothers Alexandros and Giorgos, the restaurant remains a classical choice for anyone who would love to taste the original Greek Cuisine. In our restaurant you can taste a variety of greek recipies, good wine, raki, and tsipouro. What makes us differ from the other traditional restaurants? Well, that would be our love for our buissines, our need to maintain the originality of our restaurant, and to contribute to the conservation of the greek tradition, and the greek traditional cuisine. On Saturdays, after 21:30 you can enjoy our live band playing rempetika and folk greek music, while eating. If you want to experience a traditional greek meal in a beautifully decorated restaurant, and of course, traditional greek music playing, this is the place for you! Come and join us!

Staying in Psirri / Gazi

Neighbourhood Profile
Psirri / Gazi
Side-by-side neighbourhoods Psirri and Gazi provide some of the city’s prime nightlife. The almost claustrophobic streets of Psirri feature an interesting blend of original small businesses with the restaurants, cafés and bars that have recently sprouted up. The central artery of Agion Anargiron Street has lively places to eat or drink. Further west, you can visit the peaceful ancient cemetery of Keramikos, then cross busy Pireos Street to find yourself in Gazi. With the huge Technopolis performance and art complex converted from old gasworks at its heart, you really have to come at night to appreciate this maze of bars at its best, although a daytime stroll will allow you to admire the excellent street art.
