We decided to try this restaurant based on the recommendations from several guide books and tripadvisor. The food was served lukewarm (didn't even bother to heat it long enough in the microwave). The bread had black moldy spots on the bottom. The house wine was horrible, even though it was free. The service was minimal. Definitely not an enjoyable dining... More

A friend recommended this restaurant and said it was his favorite. I'm not sure why. We arrived as they opened at 7:30. Athenians eat late apparently. We were seated right away. The food came out fast--salad with the entree. Service was very fast, but indifferent. This is a very popular place. The good was good, not great. Several of the... More

Fantastic. Big servings. Non-Touristy. Favourite with the Locals. Excellent value for money. Sit under the Plane tree in a quiet back lane and enjoy home-cooked traditional Greek meals. This is Greece.

My husband and i ha a great meal here. The food was wonderful. The restaurant is mostly outside with a few tables inside. Just be careful when you look at the menu. The items with prices next to them are the only ones that have while you are there. They don't have the items with no price next to it.

As the name suggest, the outdoor area is under a huge platanus tree - shade is welcome indeed on a hot summer day... Fantastic food, vegetables for salads were very fresh, great olive oil... When we came for lunch, some locals were among the clientele - always a good sign. Some distance away is a small park. Some preschool children... More

This is a well-known restaurant and serves the traditional food for a reasonable price. It is located in the Plaka area, but not very crowded. Eat outside.

Quite simply my favourite restaurant in Athens, not so much for the food (although it's excellent Greek home cooking) but for the traditional atmosphere and unfussy service. They haven't sold their soul to mass tourism and quite frankly it doesn't look as if they're going to (or need to). I hear Prime Minister Papandreou used to frequent this place in... More

It's worth the walk to find this little outdoor gem, even though it is a bit touristy. We enjoyed the other 3 generation family (Greek, in their case, with clearly American grandkids) and many other Europeans almost as much as we enjoyed the food. Sitting outdoors on a late summer evening in a quiet spot was relaxing after a long... More

Went for a late lunch and enjoyed home cooked Greek food. If your looking for typical Greek food, this is an excellent choice with really low prices. We had one of the Greek appetizers, tomato salad, followed by a lamb roasted in wine and herbs accompanied by the basic house wine. All very enjoyable and at a really good price.... More

Nice and honestly quite cheap. I liked the place where the terrasse lies. The food is basic but that's logical. They have a very nice grilled squid!!!

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
