We ordered the grilled salmon and sea bream and they tasted so fresh and delicious. The grilled stuffed peppers were a revelation as well as the spinal with cheese. Everything was excellent in this charming hole in the wall. The server was very congenial and beautiful. Highly recommended. It's just at the back of the acropolis museum.

One of our favourite Greek restaurants. Just behind the acropolis, this modest cafe / restaurant served some of the best food we had all holiday. My roast lamb and my gf's stuffed peppers were both delicious and only came to €15! The waitress was friendly, spoke good English and helped us order. It was very tourist friendly but still retained... More

Perfect for some home cooked Greek food! A real hidden gem, it's a little hard to find but basically in the heart of Athens.. The moussaka was delicious

We have known this place now for many, many years. It is the first place we go when we arrive in Athens, sometimes even before going to the hotel. The generous portions of great food at very reasonable prices is one good reason for going there. The relaxed atmosphere just a few steps away from the busy tourist area is... More

Simple and delicious , basic decor , we were tired after a long flight to Athens so a quick meal of comfort food hit the spot. You basically choose what you want from big serving dishes and pots of freshly made food, no menu, not expensive and there was alcohol available too

I had the recommendation from the tour guide of free walking tours and chose the Moussaka with some wine. It was a real nice treat and very reasonable price especially being so close to Akropolis museum. Highly recommended!!

The place is very simple and the menu is not huge (there is no menu actually, you can go and choose what you want from the freshly made local dishes selection). You can have grilled pork, lamb or chicken, kokinisto, mousaka, dolmades... all the nice local food without having to pay a fortune.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
