Really nice little place. Apparently best for wine and whiskey, but we had a couple of beers too which were a little pricey but it's that kind of place. We didn't eat here, and a few of the tables were reserved so make a booking if you're very keen to go. Just a quick warning, quite a few of the... More

A beautiful, elegant, cozy little restaurant hidden in a small road close to the Acropolis. Small list of wines (mainly from one wine producer) but very tasteful, a more extended food list (we tried the leek tart which was very good and light) and very nice music. Mystic atmosphere, very romantic and very kind and helpful service. Would love to... More

Within the historic Acropolis-Makriyanni neighborhood, you may find this small old-fashioned bistro-bar for a drink or two and an optional wonderful dinner to go along.

Duende is definitely an interesting place with loads of character. The crowd was quite old the evening I went. Menu hasn't changed for ages. Food is rather dated. Pasta with salmon was delicious. Rolled chicken with fruits and rice not so tasty and very dated. Very smokey interior. It is beautiful and cosy so I would give it another try... More

This small bar-restaurant is located in the heart of the city, a few meters from the Acropolis Museum, and within walking distance from Syntagma Square. The inside decoration was fine, the music was very good and not loud, all creating an extremely relaxing ambient. We had a dinner there (a total of 4 persons). All dishes we tasted were delicious,... This excellent bistro not only brings time back as if you're in the 40's but also offers good rates in drinks and the most excellent tastes in almost all its dishes, which are still the same, after 20 years we are going there. The owner is very kind and the crowd usually artistic and quite.

Nice little bar at the back of our hotel. Warm and cosy. Good selection of wines, spirits and beers. Service very welcoming. Did not try the food but, what we saw looked very appetising. Visited twice and enjoyed it both times.

During my recent visit to Athens we stayed around the corner from Duende. This convivial bar features good wine and food and a great atmosphere. It rapidly became our home away from home, by the third night the owner treated us to drinks and dessert. It is not gourmet, it is comfortable and warm. Great music too from Ellington to... More

This small and warm bar offers not only malts and whiskeys, but also a very good selection of (red) wines. Looks like a british pub, wood and marble, authentic decoration. The real hide out close to acropolis museum

crowded, popural with some sitting capacity and good painting examples by Perri Ieremiadi. The food is dull, the owner formerly in the merchant marine retains some of the uncouthness. Still and affable spot with some theatre crowd from the fringe vicinity. The location however at the ne end of Dionyssius Areopagitis pedestrian precinct s unbeatable for a night stroll south... Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
