First of all, this is not a fine dining restaurant. But in its own category it is exceptional by its great service and its simple yet absolutely delicious food. We had a nice dinner with family and one could tell immediately why this is a popular place: two guys were all the time delivering food to homes. We enjoyned a... More

We often go to this taverna as it one of the few Tavernas with Greek food remaining in Athens. It has a pleasant indoor area and a few tables on the pavement outside. All dishes are very well cooked, the prices are reasonable, the personnel friendly.

Tucked away in the upper area of Kolonaki, Filippou restaurant is quaint, cool, and the Greek cuisine is some of the best I have ever tasted. The freshest salads, great soups, pastitsio, mousaka, patates tiganites, chicken, beef, veggies, and desserts. Filippou's has been around a very long time and has gone through several iterations...but it is still a wonderful restaurant... More

Typical home style meals with menu changes for season and fresh food availability. That in itself is 4 stars. We had okra cooked in tomatoes, Greek salad, moussaka and lamb oregano washed down with a delightful house white wine. They gave us free dessert which he could not name, it was a family recipe, it was light and airy and... More

Must be a local favorite as it soon filled up with families and kids. While we were there a steady stream of people stopped for carry out on their way home from work (or maybe they were dressed up for something else). We tried the Mousaka which was as good as it gets. Also tried a chicken which was so... More

Didn't know where to go and saw a review about another restaurant of guy saying that Filippou was so much better. If you're looking for home like made food... Best so far in Athens!

A simple but very delicious neighborhood restaurant, with seasonal food. Fresh food every day, with two different rounds of cooking (one for lunch and for dinner) Usually around 22:30 everything has finished. A must try visited by locals and tourists. Usually around 14:30 and 21:300 is completely full.

Staying in Kolonaki / Lykavittos

Neighbourhood Profile
Kolonaki / Lykavittos
By far the ritziest neighbourhood in town, Kolonaki is home to most of the chic boutiques and designer label stores. Here, the wealthy say no to austerity by dressing in their finest and spending hours in the trendy cafés around Kolonaki Square, sipping the most expensive coffee in Europe. The area also contains a couple of notable museums and cultural institutions, which add to the air of nobility. The leafy upper reaches of Kolonaki transition into Lykavittos Hill, the highest point in central Athens. Climb the paths through its wooded slopes to the tiny chapel at the top, from where you are rewarded with stunning views across the Acropolis to the sea and even the mountains of the Peloponnese on a clear day. The wooden amphitheater up here hosts regular concerts during the summer.
