We went here our first night in Athens because it was close to where we are staying. It turned out to be a very good choice. The food was interesting and beautifully presented and, most important, it was delicious. We thought the prices were very reasonable.

One of the (many) good things about Athens is that one is never short of (very) good options to eat and drink. My partner and I were looking for somewhere nice to have lunch and we asked out hotel staff a nice dig. They recommended Mani Mani, named after a region in Greece. Unfortunately they only open for lunch after... More

Mani Mani is a pleasant restaurant, close to Akropolis and Plaka with reasonable prices. The food could be very nice, if singlino, (a kind of smoked ham produced in Mani), was not present in almost all the dishes.

This is one of favourite restaurants in Athens. It just gets better and better. They have just introduced some new dishes which have fantastic flavour. The style is Greek with a modern twist. Slightly more expensive than some but so worth it when compared to many of the rip off restaurants in the Plaka area.

This restaurant is located quite near the Acropolis Hotel and has a stairs leading up to the dining room. I would recommend it for a special occasion as it is slightly more expensive than your average Athenian restaurant. However, the food isn't average either, it is very good and deserves it's Facebook rating. The service was very good too and... More

First of all, this place is attractive as a late lunch/early dinner spot as they do a ½ portion, ½ price option until 6 pm for all of its appetizers, salads, pastas & a couple of its meat/fish dish essentially making it a tapas place which is great if you are not a huge eater since it allows you to... Mani Mani is a truly fantastic restaurant. The people working there are super polite, the decoration and style is simple and inviting, and the food left us full and satisfied. The plates are well thought of, everything on the plate needs to be there and the combination of ingredients is magnificent. It is not a pretentious place! The portions are... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
