Having got used to the sleepy service at our resort, it was refreshing to experience the efficiency of Alana, if anything a little too quick. But a lovely ambience in attractive surroundings, this gem on the backstreets of old town Rethymnon, was the highlight of...More

Excellent service - the staff were brilliant with us and the right amount of attentive (I.e. didn't keep bothering us during the meal). Very pretty restaurant. It's a smart restaurant and outdoor, so very pretty, but several of us were underwhelmed by the food -...More

We shared sever apetizers and they even had local beer - don't remember the name. The staff was very friendly and the food has been served within a couple of minutes. It is worth the price!

We ate here twice and both times had a really lovely meal. Alana is a pretty looking restaurant, some what hidden away, and the food and service is excellent. We stumbled across it the first time and headed back to Rethymnon again to go back...More

A gem hidden in a small street away from the harbour front - it was recommended to me and it didn't disappoint. Wonderful seafood - griddled squid and vegetables, sea bream and huge grilled prawns - all fresh, tasty, beautifully presented. Lovely peaceful surroundings ....More

Our family of four ate here on our first night in Rethymnon. We all really enjoyed our meals in a lovely setting under a tree in the garden. Make sure you eat here during your holiday or you will miss out.

Very nice place, tasty food, polite staff and quick service. We enjoyed it a lot- prices are a bit elevated but it's worth it.

Description
Alana Fresh food straight from the market. Specializing in grilled meat and Cretan cuisineThe restaurant's name derives from the old times. Alana was a place that kids of all the neighbourhood used to join together and play. It was first established in 1986 at the heart of the old town of Rethymno in Salaminos street , the central street under the castle of Fortezza and used to be one of the first tavernas in the area. With 200 seats it was the most crowdy place of the old town. In 2002 under new management, the place transformed to a more relaxing restaurant with 100 seats based on good quality products, attendive service and reasonable prices. Alana made a new beginning, changing totally the style of the restaurant, serving unique dishes of traditional fare in a relaxing setting full of flowers creating the perfect backdrop for a dining experience highlighted by inspired cuisine and impeccable service. The restaurant has attracted both tourists and local people drawn to the superb food, charm and hospitality of its owners. The restaurant serves healthy Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, using products sourced locally, cooked with care and it has been established as one of the best restaurants in town, based on the customers’ reviews. The extensive a la carte menu includes favourites like lamb with artichokes, Cretan smoked pork “apaki” and stuffed vine leaves, chargrilled steaks and beef burgers, grilled vegetables with feta cheese and oregano, wild greens with tomato, garlic and potatoes. Unique home made deserts are also offered.
