Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A favourite spot of our new Danish friend Helle. Open for smørresbørd lunch - 2 sittings 1130-2 & 214-5. Juliette, the owner, was a truly wonderful guide through a menu where you’d want to try everything… she suggested to start with the items marked classic...… and of course the aquavit. We chose the halibut with scrambled eggs, starting with a delicious non-alcoholic beer and then the waiter’s choice of aquavit. For dessert, absolutely loved Juliette’s recommendation for her grandmother’s recipe for lemon fromage. We’ll be back !More

First and foremost, if you want to eat here, book in advance. This is a traditional Danish lunch restaurant and like so many capital cities, Copenhagen has many wonderful restaurants selling anything but Danish food. It is also highly rated on more than one site...so I was not at all surprised to see the street outside crowded at 11:30 opening time. Schoennemann's was recommended to me by a work colleague and I went along to see if there was a seat left and got lucky. Now, to details. The restaurant serves many different types of beer and a frankly enormous range of snaps. Given more time and a booking I would happily have stayed until closing time. I ate an "open sandwich" of spiced pork roll, the bread was the wonderfull dark rye bread buried somewhere under a mound of pork roll with mustard and cress, my kind of food all over. For "desert" I tried a chicken and jerusalem artichoke tart, again utterly lovely with the lightest possible pastry and a rich filling. Just Go!!!More

Staff were very accommodating of gluten free diet. Food was delicious and lovely atmosphere. Recommend the potato sandwhich and the duck. Gluten free bread was very good.

We had a great lunch at Restaurant Schoennemann. The options are many, so I would recommend a little reserach before you go. We shared the daily herring platter and then each had a sandwich. I had one of the potato sandwiches with fresh peas and...a pea puree. My companion had the roast beef with shaved horseradish. All was excellent, with the herring platter being particularly memorable. It may be necessary to plan your trip trip to Restaurant Schoennemann in advance. They were full the day we went (a Monday) and not taking any walk ins. Our server was very helpful.More

This was my favourite meal in Copenhagen. Great service with very informative and attentive waiters who explained the options + a bit about Aquavit. The sandwiches are a little more expensive than the average place but the portions are much bigger, quality way better, and...presentation far more refined.More

Such a good lunch! Me and my friends tasted the real authentic Danish smorrebrød dishes. Historical and signature environmen, a really kind and gentle staff and crowded of local people. I recommend to book at least two weeks earlier, however we were lucky to find...a free table for the same day. Totally recommended.More

Authentic and delicious traditional food. We tried smørrebrød at a few places and this was, by far, the most fun. The herring is a revelation and eating amongst the locals with a beer and snaps (the waitstaff will help you choose the "pairing") was one...of our fondest Copenhagen memories. I took a chance and we booked twice in 5 days and was so happy that we did. You do need to book ahead, though, since you will not get in without a reservation.More

My wife and I were looking for a real Danish experience and we got it. The servers were excellent. We told them that we wanted traditional Smørrebrød and they picked 4 of the more classic ones. All were great. I highly recommend trying one of...the herring ones for a true Danish experience. We went for lunch because this restaurant seemed to be more of a must do lunch spot. It really was a great experience. The food was great and the atmosphere was fantastic. I would definitely go back to this restaurant.More

In super old school locales with super old school waiters you get classic Danish open sandwiches, but with enough waiters' specialities, chefs' specialties, guest specialities etc. that it's much more than a place bound by tradition. All the food is tasty, and it's hard to...choose from the long menu, although it's also hard to make a bad choice. The tartar (all of them) is just-so, and they make beautiful, velvety hollandaise. It's wonderfulMore

If you want to try the atmosphere of traditional Danish lunch, this is the place. It is quite popular, mostly from the locals, so you will have to book a table. However, try this for a true Danish smorgasbord experience with rye bread, snaps, beer,...fun service and a lot of atmosphere.More
