We happened to pass this pub one day, it looked nice and after a quick look at the reviews we rang to book in for Sunday lunch. From the moment we walked in the staff did everything to make us feel welcome and in these Covid-19 times they made us feel safe, every care was taken to keep people distanced, everything looked and felt clean and the staff were attentive, kind and friendly despite all the extra work due to Covid-19.
The food was really lovely, fresh, hot and plentiful, it was also arranged nicely and the extra jug of gravy very welcome for someone who likes their gravy! It was very reasonably priced and we would highly recommend you give it a try when in the area. We hope to visit again so will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff for making our break away even more special, we have had some disasters in the past but this most definitely was a hit!

We were staying in Cottesmore, and on two evenings we dined at the Swan Inn. On both occasions we had a lovely experience.
The Pub is an historic 18th century building so inside it looks snug, warm and friendly. The food was great. We shared a Camambert starter and then a Penne Pasta main course the first night, then other starters and Fish and chips and kebabs the second night. Delicious
The beer is well handled in the pub and on both evenings I had a pint of Everards "Sunchaser " real ale. It was crystal clear and very tasty.
The staff are lovely, the place is clean, and the toilets are clean.
If you drive through Cottesmore , you may miss the pub, because it is back off the main road, so look out for it and you wont be disappointed

First time we have eaten here. Very warm welcome friendly locals and great beer . The Christmas menu was available alongside the traditional popular pub dishes . I had the Greek chicken souvlaki with salad and dips served on homemade flatbread it was delicious. My husband had a spicy chicken and jalapeño pizza which he thoroughly enjoyed friends had Beef Bourgeon and chicken cooked in a wild mushroom and cream sauce . Very reasonable prices will definitely come back

Thought we would give this a try as our son lives near to it so went out as a family. Was told the wait for food was 45minutes but we were happy to do this. However having been given the menu on arrival we then got told when we asked again if we could order that we had to wait for all the back garden tables to be served first. Having asked 3-4 times and now 2 hours later if we could now order food we were told that the kitchen was closing!! Only after complaining did we then get told we could order. Once we had finished our food we had our table cleared and were told to settle the bill, even though we had planned on stay for another drink!! Not felt welcome in the slightest and couldn’t even put it down to us being loud or noisy as 4 of our drinks each round were hot chocolate and cokes!!

My husband and I had Sunday lunch at The Sun after a night away in Leicestershire last month. We booked after reading the good reviews. From the moment we stepped inside, we were met by super friendly staff who went out of their way to be helpful. We both ordered the pan fried chicken Sunday Lunch and wow - we were not disappointed! The chicken was tasty. the vegetables were plentiful and beautifully cooked and the roast potatoes - well, quite simply the most delicious roast potatoes I have ever tasted! I cannot recommend this pub enough and only wished I lived in the village to be able to support it more often. It was so good that we are making the 90 mile round trip today with our son to enjoy a Sunday lunch before the second lock-down!

Three of us needed gluten free food and we had a wonderful choice of kebabs with gluten free flatbreads, burgers with gluten free rolls, gluten free fish and chip and other choices. We all ordered the kebabs and they were really amazing. The staff were friendly and attentive and we had a great evening. We will be going back!

Went for a lovely meal down at the sun inn in Cottesmore, food was very well presented, pipping hot and very well put together, all home made, we decided on a pulled pork burger and a chicken kebab. Food was exceptional. All the staff couldn’t have done enough for us, all very on hand to make sure we had what we needed, special shout-out to Ashley, one of the waitresses who is an absolute asset to the team and very good at her job. Certainly will be returning.

We held our wedding reception at the Sun Inn on Friday and cannot recommend Christian, Gemma & his team highly enough. From our initial conversations about planning the day, right through to the day itself everything was terrific. Nothing was ever too much trouble, they were helpful polite and the day was exactly as we had wished. We really wanted to incorporate a Spanish theme into the day as we absolutely love Travelling to Spain & enjoying the food. We left Christian & Chef a brief of tapas, they made a whole menu especially for us and what they created was absolutely amazing. The food was beautifully presented & delicious, both ourselves & our guests were completely blown away. Days later people are still contacting us & talking about the food. We also had guests with some food intolerances, again, nothing was too much trouble, each person got one to one attention & a beautifully presented dish. Without hesitation a five star experience. Christian, Gemma & team, thank you so much for the effort you put in to make our day extra special.

Had booked a table for lunch at the end of a long walk, we rang to say we would be 30mins late we were told that was no problem and our table was waiting for us when we arrived. The food was delicious, we started with a selection of the small plates, and mains consisted of Scampi and chips, 2 different burgers and a pizza. All were served piping hot and the burgers and pizza homemade.
A very delicious well served lunch and great value for money.

Having been to The Sun Inn previous years when visiting the horse trials at Burghley we booked a table for the Friday night. As with every time we have visited the food was delicious and manageable portions of good quality food. Would highly recommend a visit to The Sun Inn when in the area.

We found this beautiful pub by accident and sat in a small quaint corner to enjoy what we hoped would be a relaxing meal. Unfortunately six feet away were an inconsiderate loud group playing board games, screaming, shouting and being rowdy. The menu was VERY limited and not what you would expect from a pub - attempts to deliver exotic food that failed miserably. Three kebabs that arrived on rock hard flatbread and looked like an unappealing mess. We couldn’t find the red cabbage, obviously not on the side so presumably somewhere on the flatbread. On the positive side, the chunky chips were great but at £3.50 a portion were overpriced and not good value. So, one starter, three mains, two sides, two pints and three cokes came to £82. Overpriced and not worth £60. This was the most expensive meal we have had in years, we are normally a family of 4 but our daughter was unwell, or the bill would have been over £100 for a very poor pub lunch in the noisiest and most stressful environment. We will not return and I hope the ignorant party from the adjacent table consider some good manners when they next decide to scream and shout.

We found the staff really accommodating, a great choice of gins and the most delicious tapas I’ve had in the UK. Nothing was too much trouble & a fabulous night was had by all. We can’t wait to come back

I attended a wedding reception at the Sun Inn in August. From helping to set up the function suite to hosting the evening itself Christian and his team were super helpful and provided an excellent and uncomplicated service throughout. The food, in particular, on the evening was a great spread and enjoyed by all of the guests.

The Sun is easy to find on the main road running through the village, with easy parking. We had booked a table for 4 people for their midweek lunch. The food was Ok with a not over generous portion of pie compared to other places we have dined at, the service by our waitress was at best average with a long wait on a not very busy day,

We had never been to The Sun Inn before ,and I booked because it was close to Rutland Water as my granddaughters were using the Aqua Park . We were certainly
not dissapointed ! The setting is beautiful, the pub itself is charming . The food was outstanding ! We all chose starters and they were absolutely delicious , my tempura prawns were amazing . Our Sunday roasts were perfect ,and the staff were attentive and so helpful . We were almost stumped after our mains , as the portions are definately ample ... But we didn't want to leave without sampling the desserts as they looked delicious ...and of course they WERE ! We left , full and happy, and as a family very happy that we had found this great traditional country pub , with an extra special restaraunt . Excellent .
