Great food and excellent staff

My family went for the carvery on the Sunday and was one of the best we've ever had! Staff were very attentive and checked every course was okay for us. We had 3 courses and each was done at the perfect time or else I'm not sure we could have eaten anymore food! The prices are so cheap for what you get with the food being absolutely delicious! Even catering a vegetarian option for those people that are which looked and tasted amazing. The very very little reviews that have stated about wait times and anything else may be better suited to fast food restaurants as there was absolutely nothing wrong with wait times or being understaffed, its exactly what you expect from a carvery, who wants to be rushed through a sunday roast??!! The Chef and staff were very polite and attentive which makes everyone there very at ease! Great background music aswell, very nice playlist! Will definitely be back for more and would go every Sunday if we could!

Takeaway

Have used the Rose Garden restaurant over the years in different locations and the food has always been amazing. Today under lockdown we used the takeaway service and I can honestly say, quality and portion size was above average. I'm not a lover of restaurant roast dinners as they are never as good as those you cook at home. However I can now say the takeaway Roast from The Rose Garden is exceptional and you could not cook a Roast Beef Dinner at home of this standard at this cost. Exceptional and recommended.

Anniversary meal

We visited The Rose Garden after a recommendation, our visit was to celebrate our 45th Wedding Anniversary. Whilst it is expensive, menus is very good, don’t be put off as the serving size makes up for it. Each serving, starter, mains, and desert were plentiful. Food was cooked to a very high standard, each serving was served at the right time and we weren’t rushed by hovering staff. Staff were very competent as well as friendly. The restaurant was exceptionally clean and well decorated. Will definitely go back in the future.

Birthday Lunch

I was very disappointed at the standard of the lunch meal served to my Mum. She ordered a Turkey roast dinner.When it arrived there was a mound of very black and burnt roast potatoes. I suggested making a complaint at that time but she didn’t want to upset my birthday meal. So when the waitress came to collect the plates I mentioned the potatoes and she said she would mention this to the chef. When the bill came, I did expect some form of compensation as mum didn’t really touch the meal. There was nothing showing so I called another waitress over and mentioned the scenario again. She went back and told the owner who agreed that mum didn’t have to pay for her dessert. I accepted the offer and we left. It wasn’t until later that afternoon my friend happened to look at the bill again and she realised that we had been overcharged. It is very unfortunate that this happened but I won’t be going back. So sad and disappointing

We have eaten as this Chef's establishments in Hockley, Leigh on Sea and here but sadly this visit was the last. We chose here for a birthday lunch for Hubby with his Mum who is 90 yrs plenty of choice, all on one level, can park near entrance and Hubby wanted his fave Ceylon chicken curry. What we were not told when booking that there was a very large group Christmas booking of nearly 40 diners, but having driven here it was too late! The big problem was severe lack of staff, only 2 lovely very young servers and one admitted she had not been there long. It was impossible for them and the kitchen to cope and with about 6 other tables to serve we waited over an hour for food, the food was not up to normal standard and with wait for bill we left after nearly 2 hours with very little just one course and one drink. Either there is a problem getting staff or they leave realising what they are expected to cope with!

Slow service, dinner below standard

I write this review as only constructively as I have had two lovely meals here, however the last meal we had around a month ago, although the food was good the service was very slow. Went today for a Sunday roast after last year having one of the nicest roasts I have eaten, today the whole table was utterly disappointed in the quality of the food. The last time we had a roast there it was fresh and not a carvery, today it was carvery style and the meat was hard and dry , waited 7 minutes standing with plates for the chef to come out and carve the meat. The potatoes was dry and flavourless & vegetables were boiled to their life after sitting on the hot plate . Such a shame as the starter was lovely. The service was so slow it was unreal, we sat on our table for over twenty minutes before even ordering our drinks and getting a menu. Then after we was trying to search for staff to get a drink. I don’t think I would go back again based on this experience which is a shame as we have had such good food before.

I really want this business to succeed. We first dined at The Rose Garden when it was next to the driving range in Hockley, and were wowed by the amazing food and service, becoming regulars and even booked the whole restaurant for a private birthday celebration some years ago. Sadly they had to move on, and this is their third venue I think. Unfortunately today was exceptionally busy and the acoustics here are pretty awful, which meant we couldn’t hear one another until it started to empty out; this could be addressed by some soft furnishings, curtains, acoustic panels etc. to make it much more comfortable. The staff are polite and friendly but it was difficult to attract their attention at times. It was very hot today and there was no natural ventilation and the air conditioning didn’t seem to be on / working / sufficient. Food was lovely and during lockdown we have ordered and collected - might go back to that again. I really hope the venue issues can be addressed to match the food and value so that this becomes the first choice for people to dine at.

Birthday Dinner

We have had Sunday lunch a number of times and it has always been very enjoyable. As my birthday was only a few days away I was very pleased to get an email from the Rose Garden informing me that because of the lockdown they were starting to do takeaways both collect yourself or they would deliver. My wife ordered liver and bacon and I ordered the duck in orange jus which I followed with a bread and butter pudding. I can only describe the food as excellent, well presented and ample quantities. We will definitely use this service again

Visited on 19 August [have been away since] arrived on time at 7pm. Only got menu some 20 minutes later when we asked for it. First course arrived at 8:23pm. Main course served at 10:15 pm. This is far too late to eat a big meal when we had been in the restaurant since 7pm. At no time did any of the management come to say there was a problem and perhaps offer a drink or even additional rolls, etc. We did inquire as to what was going on several times. When will restaurants, or any other customer facing businesses, realise that if there is a problem then tell customers early on before they got impatient and annoyed. By not doing this you have alienated this particular customer who will not be back. The food when received was excellent and I don't blame the young serving staff who were doing their best. It is the fault of the restaurant management - one less customer!

Isolation on lock down

We placed a delivery meal, which was delivered by the Chef himself! lovely man. we are disabled and my husband cannot drive at the moment. There was plenty of food, enough for 2 days. Thank you to everyone especially the brilliant and kind Chef.

Hot food served on cold plates

My wife and I went for lunch here. On the surface the decor looks good, but on closer inspection, tatty around the edges. We were seated in a corner where there were wires, and a hole had been drilled through the wall and dust was still on the floor and pipes. We had light lunch my wife had omelette and chips with a salad garnish, and I had the cajun chicken ciabbatta with chips and salad garnish. These meals came on very cold plates (like they had been refrigerated) This meant that the food went cold quickly, we had to rush our meals because it was going cold, and couldn't really have a chat. The ciabbatta was damp underneath (the second piece) because of the cold plate. And I couldn't finish the chips as they got cold ,In fairness the food was ok. The waitress summoned the chef who came to the table, and explained that the salad meant that the plates had to be cold, and that when we next come we should ask for the salad on separate plates so the hot food didn't get cold. Completely missing the point that the main meal should have been on hot plates and a couple of lettuce leaves were only a garnish. Well I've got news for you, there won't be a next time, and i advise anyone bothering to read this to avoid this restaurant with an almighty swerve. In fact the mobile sandwich bar out the front is probably better.

We ordered from Rose Garden as a takeaway to Celebrate what was supposed to be our wedding day. We wanted something a bit more than just a normal takeaway and I've got to say Rose Garden knocked it out of the park! I had the Duck Paté to start, Venison as a main and my fiancée had King Prawns with Chicken Wellington. It was absolutely spot on! So tasty and so well cooked. The customer service was the best I've received of a takeaway, the cost was more than reasonable and it was delivered at exactly the time as promised. Do not hesitate to order from or visit Rose Garden. And thank you for making our "Would be Wedding Day" perfect. Apologies the only food picture we got was the paté...the rest didn't stay on the plate long enough.

Lock down wedding Anniversary.

We phoned the chef asking if they did afternoon teas. of which they didn't usually but he could make some sandwiches and a salad for us but they didn't do cakes. it was delivered on time and what a lovely suprise in the package was lovely freshly cooked chips and also a piece of cake, the sandwiches were lovely, best we have had for ages, which went down well with the salad. Such a lovely kind chef always looking after the elderly we are disabled and in our 80s.

Increase size of takeaway meals please

Meals collected during lockdown. Amazing food. A little more food would be better but tasty all the same. Prices are a little high and maybe increasing takeaway sizes would feel like you’re not getting a compacted meal. Will eat here again when I’m a bit flush👍

Delicious food ... but!

I can't fault the quality of the food. The service is excellent (if a little slow). But surely in this day and age the vegetarian option should not be "behind closed doors". Vegetarian food is no longer a special diet - it's mainstream, so please treat it as such. There is no sign of any veggie option on the lunchtime menu - if you ask, the waitress lists a number of veggie choices for you. The option I chose was really good - so why on earth are veggie options not included on the written menu?
