I've been in this restaurant twice, once for a birthday and once with my family during march. Actually i liked the place, the tables, knives and forks (not as normal ones!) and the atmosphere in general. They have been very kind to me since they forgot my course the first time, and so they asked me if i wanted it... More

We attempted to go to dinner at another Medieval themed restaurant in Gamla Stan that was highly rated on TripAdvisor but soon found out that reservations were required at least a week in advance. We asked the kind gentleman for another recommendation and he pointed us to this establishment. We would have never found this place on our own. It... More

When you open the heavy wooden door, you feel that you will travel in time..the atmosphere is like another season. You feel like Viking. Service are friendly and wearing Viking clothes. There are candlelight.the thing that i don't like is the smell ..smell food and we go only for a beer.when we get out our clothes smell food..thats all. Next time... More

We visited on an evening, two adults and one seven year old kid. The atmosphere is nice, and the staff was friendly. We ordered the ribs with sauerkraut boiled in red wine and the moose stew. The ribs did not taste much at all, and was very dry. The stew was much better and recommended. However, the pricing is high,... More

I visited this tavern and enjoyed a few late-hight drinks with some work colleagues - still open at 2.30am! Very nice! The atmosphere was vibrant. The drink selection was very good... I gave the review "very good"... only because, we did not eat there. However, the menu looked tempting! I would also, like to share with people that I left... More

Great atmosphere, lovely and medieval looking with a host of amazing beers and infinite different cocktails available. The lovely lady serving got involved in the conversation I was having with a few friends and made us feel really welcome and relaxed in our first day at Stockholm. I couldn't recommend this place enough, amazing for a couple of drinks while... More

I went here with a group of friends for dinner while we were on a school trip. Our tour guide told us about it and made it sound better than it was in my opinion. The decorations were very medieval and cool, however. There were not many food options so I wouldn't recommend going if you are not willing to... More

I'm a college student studying here from the United States and one of my guides told me to check this restaurant out! When she said "Viking themed" I expected it to be full of tourists... but not at all. It is very authentic and has a nice atmosphere. The food was amazing. I had the meatballs and the mead and... This was so good! We were welcomed into the theatre of the occasion as the staff, dressed in authentic medical attire, announced us into the cellar hall, complete with skin rugs and antler decorations. We sat on a long table with other guests and we all embraced the atmosphere and participated in the occasion. The food was hearty and on... More

I like that place and have been there many times. The mead has always been fresh, sometimes so good that it was hard to find the exit. Food was always delicious, portions copious, though a bit pricy, but well worth it given the atmosphere. Try to go when there's live music, that potentiates the experience.

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
