This was our 1st night and 1st dinner in Sweden and it was great. Started with the traditional meatballs. It was so tasty. The restaurant was busy and we were lucky to get a table on a Tuesday night without a booking. There are plenty of bars around there to wait if you're willing.

In the midst of scenic old town is this easily over-looked gem. I could easily see how one could mark this restaurant up as one of the numerous tourist traps on the boulevard but the food here is exceptional. The restaurant is small and you may have to wait for a table but I promise you it'll be well worth... More

We had dinner at this restaurant following the ratings of fellow travellers in TripAdvisor. The restaurant interior may be typical of old Swedish restaurants, but the food was rather disappointing. The starters (3 kinds of marinated herring, smoked reindeer with berries) were fine, the main course though (pork fillet on spicy sauce with french fries, seared perch with mashed potatoes)... More

This was a great little find in Gamlastan, located on one of the main streets of the medival district, it is neither a tourist-themed nightmare or a ripoff joint, it's an honest, small establishment serving very good food. I had the fish soup, which was delicious and my wife had the Swedish meatballs, which she thoroughly enjoyed. One tip though... More

We enjoyed eating in this place during a visit to Stockholm. It is located in the old town part of the city and specializes in local dishes. I had the meatballs with lingonberries and my companion had had the grilled salmon. Both were very good. We washed these down with a bottle of the house white wine - a French... More

Great find in Gamla Stan. Walked in at peak dinner time and got a table straight away. Staff were good and the food even better. Had some nice Swedish classics at a decent price.

We were a group of 13 people, from 80-year-olds to teenagers, and were so glad to find this restaurant! The food was excellent! Obviously popular, there was a long line to get in, so we were glad for our reservation. Almost all of us ordered different fish dishes, and were very happy with our choices. Despite being a terribly busy... More

Not so big space but has good atmosphere, great staff and most of all fantastic foods! I had a "smoked reindeer, lingonberry, and cheese", "Fish soup", and "Smoked trout with sour cream sauce and mashed potatoes" and all of them were just fantastic. You should definitely visit this place.

Slingerbutten is a fine little restaurant in the old town. It is crowded, which means something. I had an aquavit cured smoked salmon appetizer and a seared herring dish as the main course. I wasn't sure I would like the herring but they cooked it wonderfully. The only problem was the dessert - they had no apple cake because someone... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
