Booked a table for three for 18:00-20:00 on a Monday evening. Ordered two nigiri platters (14 pieces of assorted nigiri per platter) at ISK 7.890 (EUR 52,30) each plus one order of Icelandic wasabi at ISK 1.100 (EUR 7,30); you can do the math. Expensive,...yes; but this is Iceland. Regular wasabi comes free with the platters. Drank water. Service was friendly and cooperative. Asked for a quiet table and got one comfortable and reasonably located; but the place is MUCH TOO NOISY, and it's inescapable. Dinner conversation is impossible. Went there to try out their nigiri. The platters include an interesting variety of seven types (two pieces of each), which is pleasant. The rice is prepared so that the individual pieces do not break up under your chopsticks—that's nice, but the texture is not ideal as far as eating goes. Win some, lose some. Despite rave reviews, this is not anything close to the most delicious nigiri that one has ever eaten; but it's not bad either—I'd give it 7-8 out of 10. The Icelandic wasabi is distinctive; we thought it worth the additional cost for the experience, and one order did for the three of us. So, interesting experience, and it would have been a very pleasant experience but for the noise. We'll keep on searching for the nigiri of our dreams (which we actually experienced once, very long ago, in a quiet, family-run place at a small strip mall in Las Vegas, rather than in Japan).More

Probably need to book with its popularity. Staff are friendly and helpful. Quite a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. The menu is extensive and food is prepared very well, truly delicious. Visited more than once just with the variety.

Turned up without reservation and it was a really busy Friday evening. I was told that we'd have to wait for another hour or so for a table, which was reasonable. However, we asked nicely if they could squeeze us in and sure enough, we...were seated in 5 minutes. Our Waitress Berta was fantastic and genuinely seemed like she loved her job. She proffered some recommendations and took all the guess work out of the extensive menu. The service we receieved was 10/10. I would definintely recommend to anyone looking for a good atmosphere, great food and excellent service.More

I walked in off the street at 10pm, most places are closed in downtown Reykjavik at this time but thought I would give it a shot. I stopped in and asked if they had room for 1, I offered to sit at the bar if...that was ok but they said no need. The place was packed, but they did have a table for me. I ordered a porter beer and looked over the menu. Decided to be bold and ordered the horse tataki and just a small selection of nigiri that included the local fish Arctic Char. The waitress, Jana, was very pleasant and helpful. When my food arrived she walked over and saw that I had ordered some basic nigiri but offered that I should try it with some local icelandic wasabi, which I happily agreed to. The table next to me struck up a brief conversation with me by asking me if I knew what today was in Iceland, of course I did't know. Apparently it was BÓNDADAGUR, otherwise known as husbands day. The woman at the next table said it was good that I was out and treating myself to some good food. Anyway. The horse was amazing, it's almost like beef but lighter in flavor and texture. The sushi was also excellent, the rice was done perfectly and the fish was light and clean tasting. The arctic char was new to me but seemed to be like a fattier salmon, delicious. The house grated iclandic wasabi was a nice addition, much better than the psuedo wasabi we have back in the states, it gave the fish a bit of sharpness and a dash of heat. Well I had my second beer and decided I was good to back to my apartment for the night. Overall I had a wonderful meal at Sushi Social and would recommend it to others. I wasn't exactly expecting the experience I got but was very pleased and impressed. Jana was wonderful!More
