We decided to stay on Heimaey dinner and have dinner at Slippurinn, and it was one of the best decisions we'd ever made. We took advantage of the three-course special and were astounded as the waiters presented dishes with ingredients that had been farmed, fished...More

Best restaurant in Vestmannaeyjar. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Michelin star worthy and unique. A must go to restaurant.

Four of us were very happy diners. My husband begged for the soup recipe. Bread and butter delicious as was the rhubarb dessert. I want to live there!

Stay for a night on the island and debated where to get dinner. We could not have made a better choice, the atmosphere was trendy and nice but the food stole the show. I had an amazing lamb dish with a huge portion. Everything we...More

For tourists, eating in Iceland is associated with sticker shock. So we haven't been chasing the fine dining options as we might elsewhere. Lunch is a more affordable way to explore this top rated restaurant. I had the lamb burger (simple, but hard to do...More

Invited 8 Nordic colleges for the 5 course tasting menu 1 - which offers good sample of various house courses. The food was good and very well presented but could have been larger portions. The waitress was very good, knowledgeable and entertaining that played well...More

Though I am a man of ordinary masculine tastes, I cannot help but visit an Anthropologie store every time I pass one. The interior design, the products, the decor, and the women's clothing all work together so sensibly, and indicate a thoughtful approach to the...More

We had halibut soup with tiny pieces of apple and dates - it was the best. Then cod that was also delicious but the very best part of the meal was dessert. Skyrr with cream, granach and toasted oats. It was a dessert that would...More

Description
WE ARE OPEN FROM MAY-SEPTEMBER We are proud to mention that in October 2015, Slippurinn was ranked as Iceland's second best restaurant according to the White Guide / Best restaurants in the Nordics. Slippurinn is a family run eatery by the harbour in a 100 year old building that once housed a machine-workshop that served the old shipyard. It's casual, friendly and excellent quality. Our philosophy is simple and honest, we cook our food from scratch using the best ingredients in season. We get most of our vegetables from farmers on the south coast and we go next door to the fish market to get the freshest fish possible. We grow our own herbs and salads and forage the island for wild herbs and seaweeds. We make use of old and traditional cooking techniques, such as drying, salting, pickling, fermenting, smoking etc., Combined with newer ones to create our carefully crafted dishes. Our unique cocktails made from local herbs are a must try! The highly ambitious kitchen is run by chef Gísli Matthías Audunsson, who also runs Matur og Drykkur, one of Reykjaviks'most interesting restaurants. Indiana his sister, is the general manager and bar manager and mom Katrín is the front of house.
