This is nearby the Odenthal-Altenberg Dom. We visited mid week, and had the chance to sit outside in the garden. Typical country food: roast pork, dumplings and mushrooms. Very tasty. Efficient service but slightly officious. There was a good selection of cakes, but it is a case of either, or. The serving size of the lunch did not allow for... More

As part of a former monastery this has the athmosphere of a medieval guest house. Food was well prepared and tasty. The waffles were extra good. Service was friendly albeit not always perfectly organized, some drink orders took so long, that we cancelled them.

I recently went to Cologne to visit a relative of mine. She loves having coffee and cake in the afternoon and get out of her house. She would take me to small villages on the outskirts of Coligne to try different coffee shops she frequented. I wanted to go to Altenberg one day because it is on the German pilgrimage... More

A small little charming cafe just paces away from the Altenberger Dom. They supply teas, coffees and cakes although there are no healthy options. The service was poor although I suspect the servers did not speak much English, and they got orders incorrect and forgot several items. I found it quite expensive for what you received. Good for a quick... More

What a great surprise to find this Cafe in close proximity of the Altenberger Dom. It's rustic interior and Christmas decorations invite you to immediately feel at home. A great variety of delicious traditional cakes, waffles with hot cherries and cream are just what the doctor ordered. All this is available for very reasonable prices.

Good for either a salad at lunch time or a full blown meal in the evening. A good way to round off a visit to the cathedral and the Brother Grimm's fairy tale land..

We visited for lunch with a group of friends who said we "had" to go there. Charming surroundings with lots of history. It was no problem that we arrived early. The staff were fantastic and the food equally so. Good, typical, local specialities. Well worth a visit.

Former utility building (farmyard) of Cistercian Monastery Altenberg. The historic building was built in 1983 by owner Prince Hubertus zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg taken over in lease by "Aktionskreis Altenberg e. V Altenberg e.V.", a private group of committed Christians. Since then the building is an assembly point for religion, art, science, creativity, meetings and hospitality for young and old. The simple... More
