My 1st visit to this lovely restaurant and won't be my last. It was my mums 90th birthday so wanted somewhere easily accessible. The food was fantastic and generous portions, but what really made it shine were the staff. They were amazing, attentive and went...out of their way to make it special for my mum and ensure she had the best time, which she did.More

Service very good. One person had main course of fish in batter and decided almost immediately that fish was very dry and inedible. Two had macaroni and chips. Almost no sauce and cheese on top was not even melted. One person had pork belly and...enjoyed it. Don't think we will rush to go back.More

Had a weekend break here. Wee problem on arrival but sorted out very quickly. The owners are both very helpful. Food was superb and the staff were very efficient and very friendly. Can't praise them highly enough. There was a Scottish rugby match on and...the Inn supplied complimentary pies at half time to those watching in the bar area! The accommodation was good. We had two spacious and well appointed rooms. Umbrellas supplied as the bedrooms are in a separate building. All in all a great place in a lovely area for a break.More

I had previously gifted a voucher to my parents who had thoroughly enjoyed their meal in The Horseshoe in December. On the basis of their positive experience, we decided to book a return family visit for Mothers Day. Unfortunately, the previous positive experience wasn't to...be repeated. The beetroot houmous starter, enjoyed last time, was barely seasoned and reportedly not comparable to last time. The main courses, apart from my daughter's fish and chips (which was the only success on the table) all came out lukewarm. The venison bourguignon ordered by two members of our party was left on the plate - the meat had none of the liquid it had presumably been cooked in, the mushrooms were wrinkled and chewy and the only source of moisture came from a weird topping of thick tomato sauce that had been hastily introduced to the venison as they both departed the kitchen. My mother and I agreed that the added sauce, not only unexpected on a bourguignon, had a distinctly processed taste and texture and spoiled the dish completely. There was a meat bon bon that incorporated chocolate and chilli that had sounded promising - I'm familiar with the concept of chocolate and chilli in rich meat dishes and have had used and eaten the combination before. However the chocolate that is used is usually very dark, this one had a blob of sweet melted milk chocolate which didn't work. When we politely shared our views on our experience of the meal with the manager, we were told quite abruptly that we were wrong because he had 'just tasted it and it was fine'. When we refused to accept his assessment of the quality of his own food, he wrote off the whole bill. Unfortunately, this came over as an attempt to claim an injustice, more than an act of genuine customer service. In the end, we did what we thought was fair - paid for our drinks and left a decent tip for the waiting staff who had been very pleasant throughout.More

Great food, great atmosphere, great staff. We had a 3 course lunch, drink and coffee for under £40. Food was really tasty and piping hot. Couldn’t fault anything with service and what we had from the menu. Really enjoyed our visit and definitely returning.

Another fabulous birthday celebration at the Horseshoe Inn. All our family were saying how wonderful their meal was and our 7 year old Grandson was given the choice of a small kids portion or a larger portion size . This option is not offered everywhere....The birthday girl was made to feel special with a lovely happy birthday runner on the table and a special happy birthday dessert . Highly recommend having your celebratory meal here . All the staff were lovely .More

Had received a voucher as a gift, so we booked dinner for Saturday 13 January 2024. We only live about 8 miles away, but decided to book a room so we could both have a drink and not worry about driving. Whole experience was wonderful....The bar in the afternoon, the restaurant in the evening, and the room we spent the night in. Hopefully we can go again, but might use the bus as a cheaper option to spending the night next time!More

I have been going to the Horseshoe under its various guises for 50 odd years. We had not been for a couple of years and decided to go for what we hoped would be a great Sunday lunch. There are 2 parts to the place,...a bar area and a dining room. The bar area appeared very busy with a couple of large groups in. We arrived at 1.00 PM and were seated promptly in the Dining Room. We were the third table seated and we were asked for our order at 1.15. We ordered Bread and olive oil as a starter and we both ordered the Roast Beef. The dining room was steadily filling up. Our bread was the only food served in the dining room for 45 minutes. No other table received anything in that time. there was a steady stream of food being taken to the Bar area. Orders started to come out for the dining room. Already frustrated at the long waiting time, we became really annoyed when other tables were served before us, even when our orders were in before theirs. One of the tables which ordered well after us was served the Roast Beef before us! It was exactly one hour after arrival in the place that we received our food. This is completely unacceptable. When querying this we were told that they had 2 large tables in the bar area that were holding everything up. Just looked like they crammed as many people in as possible without taking in to account the knock on effect on the service to the rest of us. The waiting staff were all very pleasant but clearly rushed off their feet y having to try and serve so many people at once. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed. The roast beef was chewy and looked as if it had been pre sliced rather than cut off a joint. the potatoes and vegetables were good and hot. All in all, a very disappointing experience and one that should easily be avoided.More
