Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We all enjoyed our meal. The food was delicious and well presented. Our waiter was so helpful and all the staff were really friendly. There was a good selection of cocktails. The meal was good value.

Came here for a late lunch, had sushi, tempura, skewer. The tempura was really nice, sushi and skewer were ok. Including a drink the meal came to £28, no complaint taking into account the price.

Came here last week in the evening. Not a lot of people, calm environment. Nice to come as a couple. A lot of choice, quality so so. Maybe better in the afternoon. Service so so, the basic.

A very good.surprise. walking distance from hotels. Service was efficient and the shared sushi platter very tasty.why? Coz the chef is an ukrainian woman very involved in her job with fresh fishes from Malta. We met a french waitress very keen to give us more...explanations on the menu. Pricewise nothing to comment as it was the right balance.More

Something is fundamentally very wrong with restaurants in Malta as prices seem to be rising whilst the quality of food is fast declining. Sakura at Preluna lost what I consider to be a good client. Me. It’s unbelievable how a good quality food experience can...turn into a nightmare in a few months. Inedible food should never be presented to clients. If one orders a ribeye steak as a main course, actually two, one does not expect two pieces of steak full of inedible joints. Even the sizzling beef seemed to have lost its sizzle! The manager’s justification “we know. The supplier did not deliver ribeye but something else”. To top it all, no apologies but a “thank you for letting us know” and full bill presented and paid. Admittedly my granddaughter enjoyed her sushi’s and complimentary dessert was offered which I kindly declined. Truly a bad experience overall.More

This is excellent value for money. Though the restaurant decor was a little plain, the speedy service and great food was enough to distract. We found the staff to be great, I noted a review on here that was quite racist towards some staff and...wanted to say how nice it is to see so many international faces. We really enjoyed our Deluxe Sakura Platter which easily fed two of us, the cocktails were also great value for money and though not the most traditional Japanese restaurant ever, it was a great overall experience that I would recommend to anyone staying or travelling in the Sliema area. Having eaten in many Japanese restaurants across Europe, this is by far the best value for money I've seen and the sushi was not far off being the best I've had.More

We had sushi platter which we shared, u-don noodles with seafood, and sizzling beef, all washed down with a perfectly chilled Pouilly Fume. Highly recommended.

I have just visited sakura to get 3 take aways and I ordered 2 maki salmon and 1 maki unagi. When I got home I noticed that the makis were not salmon in all 3 boxes. They just got the unagi right. I waited for...30 minutes for the take away and in the meantime I witnessed glass breaking in front of my eyes and I risked blindness.... not even a sorry but just laughing of the employees that were Indian and probably French students. I witnessed a comedy of the French student giving the order to the Indian at the cash.... they had to repeat the order 4 times and they still got it bad. After I phoned the Indian replied to me with his Indian english and he was really rude. This is the problem now in Malta that owners like the owners of preluna towers who own this restaurant are giving a bad service.... Institute of tourism does not exist and no enforcement exist. At least there is tripadvisor to get people aware that when they are ordering to pay attention at sakura because their level of comprehension and attention is zero.More

My wife and I had planned to visit Sakura so today we were in Sliema and decided to try it out. You are immediately made welcome by the warm environment and wonderful staff. We could choose to dine under the canopy or inside. Weather was...mild, but we still chose inside. We chose a table for two and were duly given the menu. The menu is very well varied and strikes you with the excellent explanations and moderate prices. We choe Chicken-Do and U-Do thick noodle soups to start and a sushi platter x 12. My gosh! The soups were amazing. The portion was generous, and the flavours flowed beautifully. U-Do with Spring Onions, Shiitake Mushrooms, Rucola and Tempura flakes in a Japanese Style Hot Noodle Soup and the Chicken U-Don with Tempura Chicken, Spring Onions, Shiitake Mushrooms, Rucola and Tempura flakes in a hot Japanese Style Noodle Soup - both highly recommended. The 12-piece sushi platter tasted fresh and just right. For dessert I had a blue-berry tart with mushroom and my wife went for glaced pistacchio dessert that quite honestly I had never tasted anything like before. Not too sweet, not too big - just right! NExt I'll have that for myself. As for drinks we went for Asahi beer - fresh always nice, The waiter and waitresses were extremely helpful. Staff are smart and clean and the whole place oozes class that more expensive places can barely match. Definitely a must visit and definitely a repeat for us. The place can accommodate groups easily and I highly recommend not only for family and friends but also for business lunches or dinners. Dinner cost us € 53 - which is roughly what we had spent for meagre pasta dish, a shared starter and a beer in an "Italian" restaurant in Valletta...something I could have easily cooked at home...but that's another story. Sakura - you will see us again!More

Pros: Good average food, good selections on the menu. (no michelin standard) Cons: Waitresses were sleepy, we had to remind them we were waiting to order food and wine. several new customers showed up waiting a long time to even receive a menu and waiting...even longer to order food... Too bad for the restaurant the service level really pulls the score down. Not a place I will return to.More

This is a restaurant that offers excellent dining experience. Our server Charly from Holland was in Malta for her internship. A very welcoming, charming young lady. A perfect server because when in difficulty to answer any questions related to the food or any allergies, she...reverts to kitchen to seek clear answers. First we ordered 2 cocktails - one a ''Japanese Ice tea'' and the other ''In Between Sheets''. Both exquisite drinks Our first dish was a Nagasaki soup (a soup based on pork and seafood) for my friend; and Unagi Maki ( Marinated Eel Sushi) for myself. Then it was pointed to us that they carry Alsace a Japanese DOK white wine produced in France and we opted to try it. A very smooth fruity wine which goes very well with Japanese meals. Our main dishes were Sizzling Bulgogi containing marinated beef; and Curry Tori Katsu Don which basically is breaded chicken breast with Japanese curry. We shared both dishes. Both excellent, tasty and very generous portions. To end a perfect evening, as sweets, we took a coconut tart for me and a hot apple pie for my friend. Both sweets very tasty and quite big. Lastly an espresso and a liquor each. Very reasonably priced. Great ambience and their bathroom is spacious and kept immaculately clean. WILL DEFINITELY SEE US RETURN. Good job and keep it up.More

This place was great with it firstly not being busy at 6 o'clock to 7:30! Secondly, we were seated very quick and promptly given our menus with a lot of options,Thirdly, when our food arrived, the presentation was impeccable with it still being hot from...the kitchen! Fourthly, The selection of dessert was good although I would like to see more added to the menu, Fithly, the theme fits Asia as well with sakura paintings and bamboo. Overall I would totally recommend and go againMore
