We went with a group of 6 while on vacation in Malta. What a great overall experience this restaurant was. The entrance is as unassuming as possible as you see just the sign and go through the door into what feels like someone’s house. Very quiet and romantic and rustic and charming. The menu is simple, one price (45 Euros) for 7 courses of what they found fresh that day. We had one person who doesn’t eat fish of any kind and we had said that in advance so that person got a few non-fish items when the rest of us had fish. Every item was wonderful as it built through the foods of Malta in starters, soups, vegetables, fish, game, traditional meats and desert. Every course was done perfectly, though a few in our party were a bit shy about rabbit or pork cheeks. We also all added the wine courses that were matched to the food for an additional 40 Euros per person. Again, excellent in every way. We learned so much about the food and wine of the country, and enjoyed ourselves at the same time. A great experience and a very fair price. The one issue that kept it from being 5 star to us was the pacing. There was only one person serving and explaining the wines, so as the restaurant filled, she was not able to promptly move from course to course, which then also slowed the food. It ended up being almost 4 hours when it should have been closer to 3. With two wine experts, this restaurant would be absolute perfection. It does deserve its Michelin star in my opinion for the quality and creativity.

Lovely service and tasty food at this semi-subterranean former wine bar, with a 7 course €43 tasting menu of Maltese specialities, starting with a mezze/tapas selection and then going via a baked dish of aubergine, courgette, onion and tomato, followed by tomato broth with mussels and sea bream, then sea bream as a main, then pasta with pulled pork followed by rabbit in red wine with fennel and garlic potatoes. Then dessert - lemon cheesecake and tiramisu. Both good.

Valletta is full of tourist traps, but Legligin stood out for its ambiance, service, and food. The staff were hands down the best trained I encountered in Malta, explaining each course and wine with the precision you'd expect from a top-tier tasting menu. The rustic setting felt authentically Maltese, unlike many restaurants in the area that could be anywhere in the world. The highlight? Excellent limited-production Maltese wines and beautifully executed home-style dishes. The sea bream and clam-based fish soup was packed with flavour, the pasta with Maltese pork cheeks was a delight, and the rabbit was outstanding. Legligin excels in ambiance, food, and, most importantly, impeccable service. Highly recommended!

Hugely impressive - this experience is twice the price in the UK. Richly deserving Michelin listing, the staff are a delight and highly knowledgable on both every one of the seven courses and, if chosen, the associated wine choices. The food bounced from vegetarian to both seafood and rabbit: we could not fault a single course. This is a fine dining experience at mid-range prices; if you go out for only one night in Valletta then this is an excellent choice.

Looks great from the outside Went with the Blind Lunch Menu for 35 Euros (vegetarian for my partner) accompanied by the wine pairing (30 euros) and it was excellent from the ambience, service & quality of food. If I was being hyper critical I would say the desert being a choice between crème brûlée or cheesecake was a little disappointing as it moved away from the authentic Maltese menu BUT can’t take any marks away as it tasted great. Special mention for the waiter - the detail he went in to for each dish & wine was superb & added to the overall experience. If you are in Malta make a trip to Valletta you won’t be disappointed - not sure if booking is required but would suggest to be on safe side.

We ate at this family run restaurant on Sunday evening and it was a very pleasant experience. The dinner menu is 7 courses - no choice - it just turns up - like eating at a friend’s house. The food is mainly traditional Maltese dishes and is extremely tasty. You try things that you normally would not order or think you wouldn’t like. Portion sizes are big enough to taste the dish properly but still small enough that at the end you are not feeling overwhelmed. All the food we had was very good, hot and tasty. Highlights were the sea bream, mushroom soup, lasagna with lemon and pistachio and rabbit pate. It was very busy when we ate there and the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere - service was charming and personable but also very efficient - well organised. The odd plates delivered before the food arrives are a nice nod to family meals! If we come back to Malta we would eat here again - very memorable evening.

We chose this restaurant for our final dinner in Valletta. We took the option of wine pairing with the 7 course tasting menu, and were not disappointed with anything. Everything was extremely tasty, my special dietary requirements were catered for, and the wines were all carefully described. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone interested in Maltese food and wine - just don't have lunch! Booking is essential, as while we were there many people were turned away as the restaurant was full on a Tuesday evening.

Friendly, attentive service here in a setting that feels more like you’re eating in someone’s home than in a restaurant. The seven course tasting menu at a very reasonable 45 euros was excellent, as were the explanations of what each course involved. The host made recommendations for wine that were a great match. Excellent food, wine, service and it felt like we got a taste of Malta.

We hadn't visited this restaurant during our previous visit to Valata in November, 2021, but we decided to rectify this omission during our recent trip as "Legligin" is now rightly recommended in the "Michelin Guide". In fact, this restaurant is now one of three "Michelin" recommendations clustered in and around Old Bakery St (Triq Il-Fran), the other two being "Guze" and "Rubino". Having dined at all three, the similarities are striking; historic, characterful premises, a great respect for local seasonal ingredients and local wines, and informal and enthusiastic staff with an evident regard for the cuisine. The unique aspect of "Legligin" is that it offers only a seasonal multi-course tasting menu (excellent value at 45 Euros per person for dinner), which varies depending on the availability on ingredients, so diners don't know what's on offer until they arrive. Thankfully we were delighted with the 7 courses we were offered, and matched the food with an equally good value Maltese red at 22 Euros. The service was excellent; timely, friendly and professional. Our final bill for 2 persons, excluding tip but including water, coffee and grappa as a digestif was 140 Euros, which we felt was good value for a delightful evening. Recommended!

Were four in Legligin on New Year's Eve and spent wonderful 3 hours. There was a 7 course menu for 85 EUR per person, very good value for money, the menu was worth every cent. Fair prices for very good wine. The quality and the coordination of the food (traditional Maltese) was excellent, taste top. The interior is cozy-rustic, high feel-good factor. Service was also first class, very sympathetic, helpful & pleasant. We would like to thank the entire Legligin team for this wonderful evening !

This restaurant serves a set menu one discovers onsite. 35€ for lunch 5 courses. The good things first: Good staff, warm, smiling and welcoming. All good here. The restaurant by itself is very pretty, cosy. Very authentic as in an old Valetta building with historical features inside (cut stones and arches). Now the less good... Food is well cooked overall, nothing wrong on that, but first the portions are quite small. For a starving customer it would be very light. The plate of rabbit with pasta was poor in meat. The assortiment of starters they call tapas is kid portion. Second, some part of the meal are surprising in reference to Maltese dishes. We were served mussels (wine and garlic) ... My wife is Maltese and we have been living in Malta for 20 years, never have I seen that on a table. Odd. I would say that this restaurant is fine for a first taste of the Maltese food as the menu looks more like a tasting menu than a full one. I would have preffered to pay a bit more for a real meal. Overall still ok.

Upon arrival to the restaurant, we discovered I had booked for a week later. Bandana kindly assured us it wasn’t a problem and sat us in a beautiful area of the quaint restaurant. My partner was so surprised about their positive attitude towards his vegetarianism and felt he didn’t miss out on a good dining experience as is so often the case. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairing, a very reasonably priced and fantastic gastronomical experience. Highlights of the menu included the fish soup, roasted peppers, cheese stuffed aubergine, quail breasts and the whole wine tasting experience itself! Bandana was informative and personal in her delivery of the wine pairing and we really enjoyed learning about the different vineyards of the country (especially her knowledge on the artwork on Marsovin’s “1919”). An absolutely fantastic experience, you won’t regret it!

We had a superb meal here, with local wine pairings. There is little choice but they can adapt the tasting menus if required (I cannot eat rabbit, for example). The servings of wine are generous and there is a good description of each course with its wine pairing. I have to say that our memory of the later courses is a little hazy but we certainly enjoyed the evening!

Great lunch tasting menu with wine pairing. The menu consisted of 5 or 6 appetizers to start. The second was a fish and mussel soup. This was followed by a pasta dish with rabbit. The fourth item was a pork dish. This was followed by a choice of three desserts. The food was delicious. I was particularly interested in trying Maltese wines. My 2 favorites were the first white wine which had good fruit and acidity. My favorite wine was Melqart. It is a cab merlot blend which was really good. I would have thought that it was a $50 or $60 dollar wine but found it in the duty free shop for 27 euros. This restaurant is a gem and only a 5 to 10 minute taxi cab ride from the cruise port.

We had the tasting menu, and the accompanying wines. This menu, based on largely local produce, changes each day, and so do the wines. It was a great experience. The food was excellent, the pairings were well thought through and the sommelier was informative and entertaining. They managed to accommodate 1 non meat eater (who eats fish) and one meat eater, with some dishes shared and others individual. Every course was an adventure, and although we doubtless overate, it was a really good experience. Highly recommended!
