What a gem! We enjoyed it so much we went back for more! Had breakfast pastries and coffee and enjoyed it so much we went back to afternoon test and cake. The atmosphere is wonderful with a real hustle and bustle but refined at the same time. We were struck by many locals enjoying authentic food and across a wide... More

Coffe and Sacher torte was good - lots of apricot jam - but overall experience was somewhat disappointing. Service was slow and a tad rude. Has become very touristy and they seem to dislike the tourists ?!

Whilst shopping in the Karntner Strasse we went for a cappuccino (with milk) in Konditorei Heiner. Very friendly service and sweets that are very difficult to resist. We resisted most, but did choose very nice small chocolates.

Popped in here for tea and cake and also to get refuge from the rain. Beautiful selection of cakes at the counter. We managed to get seats upstairs immediately where there are quite a lot of tables. We had a milk chocolate cake and a darker chocolate cake. Both were delicious. Teas were the usual Julius Meinl that you'll find... More

We heard about this place really amazing things but the visit was dissapointed. The hot chocolate was not sweet and watery. The cakes dry and nothing special.

This cafe is voted by Tripadvisor as #1 in Vienna, which is reason enough for me to make the effort to go. The last few reviews have been lacklustre/negative but I'm game enough. Everything turned out brilliant. What is unique in Heiner is its all-female wait staff, who donned a traditional costume uniform. They were all so motherly and friendly... More

I have no idea what make it number one on the TripAdvisor cafe list in Vienna. Nothing special. The coffee was tasty, as in other places. The service was unwelcoming.

Climb to the second floor and have a perfect Cremeschnit and marzipan Cartoufle with coffee or tee in a baby doll house porcelain dish!

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
