The Lonely Planet somehow gives this place a very high recommendation ( a starred review) so when we visited Schoenbrunn we went out of our way to visit this bakery/restaurant. Although the description of the place in the Lonely Planet was correct and the place does have its charms , the price / quality ratio was fairly pathetic. You can... More

I went to Pure Living Bakery, because my friend told me there are the best cakes in town and recommended to try the one with banana. They didn't have it that they(they have different cakes every day), so I decided to have California Breakfast(or somehow like that), which is a bagel with salmon and eggs. Prices are quite high, yes,... More

The interior decor was of shabby chic beach design. I had a salad and smoothie. The smoothie was a bit watery and tasteless. The salad was okay (and not seasoned enougg unless you season it yourself). I think I should have ordered coffee and cake instead. Staff were friendly and multi-lingual. Good service, music and atmosphere. However, food is below... More

We were asked to leave our stroller outside, however it was enough place next to our table. The street was very narrow there, so stroller would bother pedestrians. We decided to leave. Do not recommend for parents with strollers.

Mother with stroller is not welcome and treated very bad. Very high prices - even more expensive than Starbucks. The drink didnt even taste good! Unfriendly staff, expensive and not tasty. Never again!

After a morning exploring the gardens at Schoenbrunn, we wanted somewhere to relax for a while and have some lunch - with this place being recommended by both TripAdvisor and our Lonely Planet guidebook. From the second we walked in, we knew we'd made the right choice. The atmosphere and decor is excellent; light hearted but also somewhere you could... More

Everything tastes great, but you have to order at the counter and still they charge almost 10 € just for coffee & cake. Ridiculous. looks like a place for students, but the prices are for rather rich people.

I went with my couple and we wanted to take a coffee and a piece of cake. The prices of the cakes were not writen and we noticed that the coffee was quite expensive: 4.50€ for cafe latte. Since the other drinks were even more expensive we decided to take two coffees and two pieces of cake. We were charged... More

I visited here over a month´s stay in Vienna and the Burggasse main cafe. Great choice of bagels..Brie, smoked salmon, falafel, hummus, even mango and curry tofu. I tried quite a few of them. All made to order. They just launched a new bagel menu and there´s lots for vegans and vegetarians also. I like relaxing here and enjoying great... More

Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Hietzing
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
