We had an excellent meal here. The staff were very helpful and we had an excellent range of dishes to try. We would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try some delicious fish dishes. The food made this a memorable experience.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Fjord. A small restaurant and on Saturday evening all the tables were occupied.
The menu contained options between 3 and 6 courses, with the main being a fixed dish. I opted for 3 courses whilst my husband went for 4 as he fancied both the dessert and cheese to end his meal. Although an expensive meal, the dishes were executed beautifully. With each course the waitress explained each dish. The amuse bouche and palate cleanser was a nice touch. Saturdays palate cleanser really was different, loved the bubbles element to it!

It was a bit luck of the draw that I ended up here tonight. I checked online availability earlier and saw there was none, but took a chance anyway and was lucky enough to score a table. They have a set menu, which I believe varies each week, but has a local focus, with rustic sensibility but elevated to fine dining class.
After some starting snacks, first course was lightly grilled salmon with an Asian inspired sauce and salad, paired with grillo. The wine acidity paired beautifully with the subtle spice and interesting sweetness from sliced rhubarb.
Next was asparagous with mussels and prawns, a tasty rich pairing that went well with the clean and tart cab sav. Very elegant and left me wanting more.
Next was the one I was perplexed about: minke whale. Not sure how I feel about this though I guess if it's farmed, is it different from any other meat? It was a first for me, and paired with a Rhone shiraz blend that was full flavoured and medium to full bodied. No Barossa, but tasty. When paired with the whale though, which was itself rich and full bodied, served with broccolini, parsnip puree and a berry sauce, the pepper and blackberry of the wine was the perfect complement. So whale is a red meat, quite rich and clean, and weirdly reminds me of a rich version of kangaroo. Not bad!
Next came a Spanish mourvedre with the main, again medium body and currant richness with earthy body, an interesting pairibg with baked ling with beetroot pure and red wine sauce on a mushroom risotto bed. With the fish alone, the wine doesn't make sense, and even the earthiness of the beetroot added doesn't make it gel. But with the rich, salty mushroom risotto, it clicks. I still find it an odd pairing, but the clean meatiness of the fish does work well with the earthy flavours of its accompaniments, and the wine was nice.
To finish, we have a Malaga sweet wine with a volavont style cake filled with lemon curd, and topped with mousse, berries and ice cream. I'm not a big dessart guy, but this was not sickly and paired well with the sherry-style wine.
Definitely a great way to end the night.
Staff were friendly and happy to chat about pairings, and importantly, did well to squeeze me in without a booking. Very nice and very impressive feast!

It was a good experience and good food BUT why must they play loud and sometimes noisy music. We are there to eat and talk together, we are not at a concert. I asked the waiter to turn the volume down once, which he did, but then the music was almost as loud again. Music in restaurants is unnecessary and ruined a lot of my experience. I don't need Pink Floyd and guitar noise when I'm going to enjoy a 5-course meal. Cut the music.

Hmmm. Over the past few years I have had some amazing meals here. This time was not at that level. I don’t know if this is a trend or if we were there on an off night. The atmosphere seemed to have changed from intimate and cozy to something that seemed more corporate. While the servers were great, the overall sense was less personal. And the food, which had always been a highlight, was frankly disappointing. The main dish was supposed to be the halibut, but frankly it was inedible. The fish was soggy and the sauce overpowering and off putting. Small dishes beforehand and desert were very good, but I couldn’t eat more then a few bites of this. I’m not sure where that leaves me with regards to Fjord. I’m not in Oslo that often, so I’ll be looking at reviews before heading back to this restaurant as opposed to others ( and tbh that makes me a bit sad as this has been an absolute favorite in the past).

A small restaurant, seems to fill up quickly, so a reservations is a good idea. Diners can choose a 3, 4 or 5 course prix fixe meal. Ours featured both hake and halibut; best fish we've ever tasted; beautifully presented with interesting sauces that do not overpower the fish. Service is attentive. Atmosphere is busy, but subdued. We wish we could eat here at least once a week forever, but the airfare is prohibitive.
If you're in Oslo, you would not regret making this a priority.

Maybe my best food experience ever! My friends had the three course set fish menu, while I had a vegan option of the menu. I find it quite hard to find vegan gourmet food that is actually filling, but this was absolutely amazing! The main course was a type of nut roast with a “fish-like” twist to it. So many interesting and amazing flavors.
You won’t see a vegan menu, but if ask for it in advance they will provide it for you. I really recommend this place for both vegans, and of course non-vegans as my friends were very happy with their menu as well.

I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews but was unfortunatly disappointed.
Firstly the tables are placed very close to each other, and the resturant was full. We could hear the conversation of people on both sides and it was rather distracting. It was in addition very loud volume in the resturant, made it difficult for the waiter to hear us, and often for us to hear them. As well as for us to be able to talk amongst each other despite sitting opposite of each other.
From the waiters, I missed some more knowledge surrounding the wine that was served/on the menu. As well as some more details surrounding the sourcing, preperation and ingridients of the food.
We had a four course meal from the set menu. The menu was rather "classical" seafood, nothing revolutionary in terms of ingredients, and sides and a bit repetetive. For the price we paid I was expecting more innovative and original dishes - but this might be personal preference.
The food was overall balanced and tasted decent - except for the white chocolate ganache dessert, it was very nauseating (the sorbet was delicious though).
Was not worth the money in my opinion.

Quite mediocre place with exquisite wine. I ordered a 5-course with wine package and was not great-impressed with the dishes. They were good, definitely, but nothing wow. They had a green butter with anise (lacriss flavor) and it suited very badly to the dishes and the bread, although isolated it was good. I ate it! The waiter was arrogant. I was not welcomed in a very nice way and he wondered what I wanted when they hadn’t even opened (I was there when they opened and had booked tables for that time). I got confirmation on table ordering by sms but he obviously had not received this with him, and was ridiculous in the behavior as I perceived it. The tone was changed during the dinner and he was incredibly pleasant with the wine, which was the best at this visit - good selection with good tastes to the food. The service overall was therefore very good and I tip ok for this, but I probably won't go back here. The food was mediocre and the rooms were dark and sad. I would also recommend the service to not prejudge the singles who come, this I really felt on - we pay well for good food and service no matter the shape, age and color, and that is well the whole point of operating such a place - earn money for the food you sell and give pleasure and experiences to those who want this. Disappointing.

Super cosy and nice restaurant with very good service in the city center. Their fish dishes have the optimal size and excellent taste. They also mange to serve wines that fits very well. Highly recommended in Oslo.

We ordered the 3 course menu. Second course was langoustine but there was not much to it. After we seen it coming out to other tables who were Norwegian and they got proper big langoustines. We were very disappointed as tourists we seem to have been served the tiny langoustines. Glasses of wine were small for the price. Overrated.

I'll keep this tight, as everyone seems to be writing the same reviews that I agree with.
It's one menu but you can choose between 3, 4 or 5 course.
The fish cookery is superb and the wife and I took 4-course (skipped dessert) - she loved the monkfish with risotto (as did I) but the main halibut for me was the star of the show. My teenagers skipped the risotto and went for dessert.
Wine pairings were generous pours and very well chosen wines.
Would I return? Absolutely.

We experienced the same things as Liz K (comment below), she just spoke what on my mind. We’re tourists and also ordered 3 course menu, the food would have been enough if they had given us a proper big langoustines, but instead they gave us the tiny ones (half of the size of what the other ppl got) and with just one claw. Not sure why, I wonder is this how they treat tourists? I would think it’s fair to give us the same size as the others as we paid the same price and not to mention it was pricey as well. We were very disappointed. Overall the food was ok but the experience was bad.

We took the 5-course menu. Nicely presented and all the dishes were delicious. I liked that they adapted a dish while offering to taste it "complete", that they asked me at what pace I wanted to continue, that they added free table water (which is becoming rare), that they did not push for consumption (we did not have wine). It may be a little expensive for some, but it is entirely justified for this level of quality.

First-class food and service in an elegant and cozy atmosphere at what must be Oslo's best fish restaurant. We were served a fantastic five-course menu consisting of scallops, salmon, crayfish and skrei. Elegantly arranged with lovely flavor combinations, especially the crayfish and the scree exquisite. The wine package was a very good selection and went perfectly with the dishes. The service is as good as the food - here you can look forward to a great culinary experience, in a cozy and elegant atmosphere with excellent service. Thank you very much for me.
