For our first night of our short break in Mumbles, we had chosen to, based on reviews, dine at the best restaurant in town. We were not to be disappointed.
We had reserved our table weeks in advance, which was a good move, because we...would have been devastated to miss-out. We were shown to our table at the rear of the restaurant adjacent to the viewing window into the kitchen. A great spot for watching creativity at work. The two chefs were constantly on the go, and producing great plates.
We studied the menu and, for our for starters and mains, we were in full accord; it just had to be fish for both courses. We then chose our wine to suit, this was a really pleasant Sicilian “Tasari Grecanico”, a light, dry and soft wine, with crisp apple and lemon tones. This wine was very similar to a Sauvignon; the palate mellowed-out to delicate peach and orange finish. Just lovely!
To start it had to be, for both of us, the ‘Capesante alla Siciliana’: three seared scallops in a sauté of garlic, capers, roasted red peppers and fresh cherry tomatoes. Wow, these were fabulous scallops: perfectly ‘just cooked’, and the reduction brimmed with flavour, the vegetable crisp balanced on the top was a good foil, but we could only guess what is was made from.
For mains (again for both of us) it had to be the ‘Medaglioni di Rana Pecsatrice, Crema de Njuda e Salsa Verde’: this was seared monkfish fillet wrapped in Parma ham with a cream of Njuda sauce with green salsa dressing. This plate was served with a side of sauteed potatoes and veg of the day (carrots and buttered white cabbage). Again ‘Wow’, this was delightful and rich, such an absolute joy to eat, perfectly cooked!
We differed with our choice of desserts: my partner had the Tiramisu and I chose the Panna Cotta with Mango sauce. Predictably these plates were a ‘Wow’ too. The Panna Cotta was sublime just the perfect measure of gelatine to produce the right texture. My Partner’s Tiramisu was perfect: so light and, let’s be fair, so sinful as to feel that you need to protect others from being similarly corrupted.
It was a fabulous top-notch meal in a top-notch restaurant. It was certainly ‘Wow’ food, and great service in a restaurant that had such a wonderful ambience.More
