About
The Mirabelle opened in 1989 being named after its famous Sister Restaurant in Curzon Street, London, which was at the time under the same ownership. Immediately after opening, the Restaurant gained an enviable reputation and is featured in many fine dining guides as a consistent entry year on year. A modern approach to flavours and textures has always been an important aim. The French Plum variety found in the Lorraine region, the Mirabelle, is famous for its full and pleasing flavours. We trust that your meal reflects these characteristics combined with service that complements the efforts of the Kitchen.

On our last night at the Grand Hotel we dined in their fine dining establishment, the Mirabelle. Although the décor was not all to our taste there was an atmosphere of calm and a nice ambience in the full dining room which is certainly luxurious. There is a six course tasting menu at £78 but as we had bought our own wine (corkage is not unreasonable) it did not work for us so we chose from the carte which has five choices at each stage. We also looked at the wine list which we thought was excellent and all things considered reasonable value too - the sommelier is on the button and has some good ideas. Starters were Cornish Crab and Sussex Mackerel both of which were beautifully presented and very tasty; mains of buttered south coast plaice and the "fish du jour" (sea bream) were both superb and we shared a strawberry mille feuille for desert. Service was excellent all round, a little formal but this is certainly a fine dining establishment. We thought this was an excellent dinner and (see separate report) far better value for money than the Garden restaurant. We will certainly want to come back. At present this is under rated, we are regular diners out and have visited several one star Michelin restaurants which are not as good as the Mirabelle.

We came here twice when staying in the hotel. The surroundings are very stylish. Service is formal if not as attentive as usual due to Coronavirus restrictions. We had the a la carte menu and stuck to two courses. We felt the cooking was excellent with a good and varied choice of dishes. My wife thought the trout and vegetarian risotto were superb and I particularly enjoyed the beef though that is £40. People we met had the tasting menu with wine flight which they felt was too much to eat. If you have three courses with a glass of wine and a coffee expect to pay at least £80 a head before service.

An elegant dining room with a panoramic view of the seafront. A Victorian influence to the décor. The wait staff were particularly attentive and friendly. Most impressive was that the bar was able to supply an apres meal digestif of a glass of Chartreuse Vert, an almost unusual event. The tea offered after eating was loose leaf served with a tea strainer, very good. My very minor criticism would be with the smallish quantity of meringue accompanying an excellent desert..

Booked meal with Champagne reception, 5-course dinner and vintage Champagne to toast New Year. Dress code stated "black tie". Man arrived in lounge for Champagne, wearing grey jacket and grey tie. No attempt made to enforce dress code, or offer loan of black tie. Lack of staff visibility in Mirabelle Lounge, so guests helping themselves to canapés from shelf. Asked for whisky with meal, but never saw list or whisky. Meal was good, and dishes attractive on plates. However, service was too rushed and lack of visible management. 1st plate taken before I'd finished eating, so for following courses sat holding fork or spoon in air to stop them taking plate. Terrible, rushed service. Tasteful Christmas decor in Mirabelle and good pianist. At end of meal no staff to show us to Great Hall Lounge for Champagne reception, so found location ourselves. Husband ordered beer in Lounge, but waiter knocked it over on tray and onto adjacent table. Same waiter brought our Champagne but knocked both glasses over on his tray, spraying my outfit, other guests and adjacent table. Managed to get 2 more glasses about 2 minutes to 12. Really poor service, certainly not fit for a fine-dining restaurant. Made a memorable evening, but for the wrong reasons! Shame.

We have to agree with the Artsman posting, see august 2020. The food was very poor, my main meal was totally white, no colour whatsoever! the service was indifferent too and we had to pour our own wine. we took two guests with us for a special birthday occasion and we were very underwhelmed at the lack of quality of the food. the starters were indifferent, the mains small and expensive and the desserts, tasteless. who on earth employed this chef and why? Is his work not monitored?? The bill was over £400, more than equivalent meal at Claridges! ( which is always, really excellent).we shall not be returning here again. beware.

It began with there is no indication that walking out to the far side the building there is no easy access toilet. 28 steps to the ladies or walk to the other side of the building, They didn't have the wine we ordered and the food was unbelievably bad. Pork with crackling was served as a full fat piece of belly pork in a sweet, sticky syrup - revolting. The cheese course was a slate with three bits of under ripe cheese and a dollop of brown pickle. There was a few grapes and crackers. We were not given a choice of cheese. Forgive us for expecting better from a five star hotel. The service was indifferent.

We dined in the refurbished, now contemporary looking restaurant, and had the tasting menu (£80 pp). Each dish was well prepared but all were under-seasoned, and some were just not very nice. For this price I would expect Michelin star quality, but it was very wide of the mark. The service was attentive but lacked any finesse, for example courses were served to our table before we had finished the previous course, dishes were served without cutlery, no tea or coffee (or cheese course) was offered, napkins were not folded etc. If it was half the price, I would gladly dine there mid-week, but unfortunately it isn’t worth visiting for a special occasion.

We went for my wife’s birthday (a party of 4). Food was good but service was dreadful . I would have been disappointed by the level of “service” in a mcDonalds never mind a 5 star hotel. Initial drinks in the bar took 20 minutes to come from when they were ordered and even then two drinks arrived and then the other two about 5 minutes later. We were given canapés - 6 for 4 people … how is that supposed to work? In the restaurant we were sat with the menus and had to wait 15/20 minutes before we were asked if we wanted a drink. We were not offered bread despite the oil and vinaigrette being sat on the table. The food was great but no effort of any kind was made to mark my wife’s birthday. All in all a very disappointing night out - it was meant to be a special and memorable occasion and it was memorable for all the wrong reasons. A very costly mistake!

We have eaten at the Mirabelle on several occasions and are never disappounted. The food is excellent, flavours, textures and colours compliment each other wonderfully and have been a joy at each visit. The Hotel Manager is really the icing on the cake of The Mirabelle, his attention to detail as well as his friendly, knowledgeable, charming manner really is second to none and makes the Mirabelle a restaurant we will return to for many more family birthdays.

My partner and I had the Tasting Menu on Friday night. An excellent night from start to finish. Firstly, the decor of restaurant is beautiful and the tables elegantly set. The meal was superb … it’s rare to have a tasting menu when every course scores a 10 out of 10. Every dish looked like a plate of art and was a feast for the senses. This was a special meal and we are so looking forward to going back. The staff are knowledgeable, professional and go that extra mile to ensure that the dining experience for the evening was perfect. The wine selection is good and I recommend Zinfandel - first class. We ordered and additional liqueur coffee to end our evening - Thank you Benjamin for a faultless evening.

Booked the Mirabelle restaurant at the Grand Eastbourne for our wedding anniversary and we were very glad we did. The Dining room has been freshened up but still maintains its Victorian grandeur with high ceilings, chandeliers and lovely furnishings. We were pleased to see an a la carte menu alongside a tasting menu and we decided to choose from the former. Every course was excellent; tasty, beautifully presented and accomplished. The service was friendly, unhurried, attentive and professional. Couldn't fault it. The Sommelier knew his stuff and has put together a really diverse wine list. We enjoyed a glass of English Sparkling wine from nearby Rathfinney but other Sussex vineyards, Ridgeview & Nyetimber were also listed. We followed the Sommeliers recommendations for a glass of still wine each and were really impressed with his choices. There was a great atmosphere in the restaurant, we spoke with diners from three other tables as they were leaving, they had clearly enjoyed themselves too. Next time we visit Eastbourne our choice of restaurant is a no brainer. That said, if the team at the Mirabelle can maintain these standards, the word is going to get out and we might find it very difficult to get a table !

We ate in this restaurant a couple of times recently. It is a very comfortable restaurant with modern decor. On a Saturday night visit we were treated to a pianist which added to the atmosphere. Service is attentive and friendly. The food is of a high standard and we weren't disappointed with any of the dishes we tried apart from the coffee we had which was weak and watery and served in a pot for 1 at £12! The wine list is very extensive but as we drink very little we only had a glass and a very nice port after the meal.

My wife and I have been useing this restuarant for some time and have always been pleased with service and food provided. However, the arrival of new chef MIcheal has taken the experience to a another higher level. The menu choice and presentation is excellent and the use of local products is admirable. For anybody who has not used this restuarant for a while they should!!

The last time we came to Mirabelle was a number of years ago but the wonderful attentive service and fantastic food still remains the same. The beautiful restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and has carpet, which allows for a nice atmosphere unlike may modern restaurants with wooden floors which make it sound like one ins dining in an aircraft hangar. The food was absolutely lovely with a varied menu, beautifully presented. The wine list is extensive with a wide variety of wines and a wide price range. As for the service, what can I say! Brilliant, very attentive but not over-bearing. The staff are a wonderful compliment to the reastauarant.

This was our fourth fine dinning evening of the week and looking at some of the photos I wasn’t very excited about going. However we were pleasantly surprised and impressed with the food. We had the seven course tasting menu which we enjoyed all the different courses except the unnecessary addition of the foie gras to the main beef course. Service was good and the pace of the dishes was well timed without being rushed. The standard of the food was very good and the restaurant was well presented.
